Im curious what make the Free Republic on Facebook group Official? I see a note from Jim on the page, but Im not sure that anyone is monitoring the site.
It seems to me, that theres a good amount of kooky crap on Facebook that would never be allowed on FR proper.
Who owns the facebook site?
I live for those..you must be doing something right. But if it gets too much, you can block / report them.
I don’t do Facebook, so I have no idea.
I do belong to Yahoo Groups FreeRepublic2, although I don’t really use it except occasionally, to see if and why the FR site is down. Less need to do that recently, I’m glad to say.
Ha, it's a gadget with widgets the Government uses to collect all your personal information, likes, interests and hobbies of which they compile for other than benevolent reasons. ;)
Facebook pages need control, which is easy. I have a couple for promoting my bands and musical endeavors.
First thing you do is unfollow all friends except those in the “inner circle”. Unfollowed people are still friends, but their posts don’t show up on your news feed. They won’t know the difference, and they still see whatever you post and can comment.
You will get notices when they post things. Click on the planet icon near the top-right of the page to see activity. If you like what people post, you can move them from unfollow to follow. Then their posts will appear.
I have about 1800 friends on one of my band pages. If I didn’t unfollow most of them my page would be full of crud all the time and I’d miss the good stuff I want to see.
Selective following allows you to communicate with many, while only dealing with a few.
A public type facebook page is for your benefit, but others will try to use it for their benefit. I don’t allow that. Anyone that posts liberal crap on my pages is unfollowed immediately. After you do this for a while, you have a nice page with things you want to see, and have others see.
I'm in the same camp, Cicero. Also, Yahoo FR when the mainframe goes down.
Oh, and there are a couple of ways to unfollow.
When someone posts something you don’t like, you go to the top right of their post and hover the cursor just under the thin line that deparates posts. A little arrow will appear, click on it. You will be given options. You can delete the post, or unfollow the poster, which deletes the post and stops any others from them from showing on your page.
You can also go to the persons page and look for the button that says, “following”. Click on that and you will get the “unfollow” option.
You don’t want to deal with following hundreds or thousands of people, even if some of them post good stuff. The purpose of the page is to push people to FR, not to allow spam from idiots. At least, that’s my take.
Unless you are administering a page, nothing you do will keep others from seeing spam or blogs or shoe salesmen.
The question here, as I see it, is one posed at the admin level.
Certainly as a user you can hide things from yourself.
Really all that does is make you ignorant of some of the
goings-on.
Blinding yourself to the bad things simply lets the bad things go un-opposed by you, since you can’t see them.
While you are ‘here’, is there any way to let ‘us’ know if a post has been pulled prior responding to it—like when you hit reply etc etc?.
Last couple of times went through the whole routine of trying to come up with ‘clever quips’ etc only to find that when I hit post/send etc it says, thread had been pulled.
Is it ‘possible’ that it was pulled between the time I started and finished? That seems (sort of) logical but has happened to me a couple of times recently— that sort of shoots down my theory unless I am very ‘unlucky’.....
Thanks
That's the price you pay for Facebook. People can pay to put stuff on your news feed.
True.
Did you know that bloggers can fish for hits right here on FR?
For FREE?
Let's call those booger-eating spastics OUT!
Bunch of slack-jawed inbred unwashed and lice-infested pukes...
I have two psges under two names. I am friended between pages. When I unfollow someone on one page, and go in under my other name, I don’t see the unfollowed stuff.
Maybe this is because I use regular pages. I don’t care for the pages meant for businesses, etc.
nice diatribe tho. :=}
The Chev pic is in memory of my bro.. 101st Screamin' Eagle paratrooper, gone but not forgotten.
I hate to be the one to tell you this, but you're gonna go blind.
A better question would be, Is the Free Republic page on Facebook official?
I strongly suspect the answer is no.
Ive got a sure fire way for stopping these folks. First
