Ok I have a question; How many here have watched PBSs "Bletchley Circle",...

Seems to be a general rule-of-thumb, if there are American and British versions of a show, the British one will be ten times better.

I visited Bletchley Park in 2007, so when the first season of this series aired, I watched it, and enjoyed it. I was hoping they would do a second series. I’m a female, but I don’t watch it because of that. I love British mysteries. Nobody does history documentaries, and mysteries like the Brits!

We’ve watched “Call the Midwife” and really enjoyed it. I love Miranda Hart...truly funny gal. Look for her own show “Miranda” - you’ll laugh until you wet yourself.

Downton Abbey is the very best, just excellent. Call The Midwife is good; Foyle’s War is too, but think that series has ended. I watched it on Netflix, so not sure about that.

Mr. Selfridge and The Paradise (series ended) are both good except for the occasional too-liberal bent.

British shows/movies are usually so well done. Great acting, script, production. First-rate.

Best British show is “The IT Crowd.”

I enjoyed the geeky series, The I.T. Crowd. One has to be computer nerdy to understand, but some episodes had me in stiches.

I found a proposed American version pilot, but it apparently didn’t get sold to any network.

Do they still show Fawlty Towers? Best comedy show, ever.

I gave up on Mr Selfridge because I did not care what happened to any of the characters. No matter how visually impressive a series is, the characters have to intrigue. You must care about some of them, and I found them all...yawn inducing.

Thanks for letting me know that Foyle’s War will be back. I had thought the last season was it’s finale, but just checked online, and found that because of high ratings it will continue, and the new series will be shown sometime in 2015.

Lol... no idea.. TV I still own here is unusable. They switched to digital several years ago, so my TV is a VERY BIG, VERY HEAVY paperweight ;) (BTW, in Japan, so, no idea about Brit shows anymore;))..
All of the good stuff is still down-loadable through torrent :D

I used to watch so much British TV growing up, it’s a wonder I didn’t wind up speaking with an English accent.

Yup...It’s a little tedious. But I do like ‘Foyle’w War’ and my new favorite is ‘Doc Martin’

I am a big fan of British shows. But lately, I have tried some other foreign shows. Once you get past the sub-titles, they are pretty good. Fave at the time is Maria Wren, a police procedural from Sweden.

The absolute funniest was ‘Red Dwarf’ and I wish it would be on again!

Masterpiece Theatre is the best...loved and continue to love reruns of Morse, Miss Marple, Midsomer Murders, Foyle’s War, the new Morse series, Downton Abbey, Mr Selfridge, Bletchey Circle. The new Sherlock Holmes irritates me in that they find it necessary for Sherlock to move and speak like he's on speed..all the time! He talks too damn fast, something the original Sherlocks did not do. On the other hand, the Dr Watson character and the actor who plays the part is excellent. The Sherlock Holmes of old with Basil Rathbone was the best in my book. It was soothing to take in, and interesting to watch...the new Sherlock makes me a nervous wreck because of the way the program speeds through each episode. I also loved MI-5...this was a great show, and it reflects the very problems we here in the USA are experiencing today.

I cannot wait for the Outlander series on Starz this summer. I don't have cable, so I hope I'm going to be able to get this some other way. I've read all the Outlander books and this already looks like a really good rendition: http://www.starz.com/originals/outlander/videos/video/379

I hear the plan is to cover one book per season.
