I don't know what your applications are.

Most windows programs will, though I myself have one that will not run on Linux.

critical for me are pcAnywhere, and a DOS app that runs in a window on XP

I have PCB express, Picbasic Pro, and MPLab IDE ; haven’t found a way to run these in Linux ....

Maybe set up a virtual window & run them in that?
