An openly gay chief of police has been fired by a South Carolina mayor who was caught saying he preferred alcoholics to homosexuals.
Crystal Moore, a 20-year veteran with the Latta Police Department, was relieved of her duties as chief of police on Tuesday following seven reprimands handed down by newly elected Earl Bullard.
The chief had recently discovered during an investigation that the town's parks and recreations director Vontray Sellers had operated a city vehicle with a suspended license.
During the probe, Moore found that Bullard failed to conduct a proper background check on Sellers before giving him the job.
On Tuesday, Bullard dismissed Moore, who is the Latta's first female chief of police and has not faced disciplinary action in her two decade career.
Bullard claimed Moore conducted a background check without authorization, questioned the authority of a supervisor and contacted 'news media to help bring about disorder and disruption to the town of Latta,' among other things.
But many in the community, including city officials, are questioning whether the real motive behind the firing was retaliation or the fact he allegedly doesn't like gay people.

Einhorn is Finkle.
In South Carolina? Seriously?
Reading the story it appears that her sexual orientation had been known for a long time. But she probably didn't flaunt it and just happened to be a good cop who worked her way into the chief's job. As for why she got canned, I can't tell if her bigger crime was being gay or for looking into the mayor's crony and his legal violations.
So a shady mayor fires a police chief due to the chief uncovering a shady appointment. Certainly that’s never happened before and must be because of who the chief sleeps with.
Keep you hands where I can see ‘em!
Read the story. It doesn't sound like she was forcing anything on anyone. She was who she was and it sounds like the whole town knew it and didn't have a problem with it because she didn't flaunt it and just did her job. It also appears that the mayor exceeded his authority by firing her and the majority of the city council are opposed to it. If she was some sort of flaming lesbian I doubt she'd have the support she has.
Police chiefs, and effectively their officers, serve at the pleasure of the Mayor or City Council for exactly the purpose of POLITICAL control of law enforcement.
If ya don't like it, your best option is to get rid of the police and return Constitutional law enforcement to you duly elected County Sheriff.
As a flip side of the argument: Could it be that the police chief is wasting time and money conducting investigations in an attempt to bring down the mayor? I cannot imagine anyone here being surprised that someone one mayor hired might have a suspended driver’s license. With Sheriff “I hate Palin” Dupnick (or something like that) running the county sheriff’s office for 50+ years, I suspect the corruption runs deeper than someone who - gasp! - drove with a suspended license!
If the lesbian police chief finds evidence of bribes, etc...then get back to me. Although I’d bet where I live, bribes are standard...
She looks like Clay Aiken, only manlier.
That’s a man, baby!
ROFL
She's a woman?

I doubt this will stand, for several reasons.
1) Unless being a lesbian interfered with her job performance, most people would consider this firing unfair. Lots of homosexuals work hard, never make a mess or raise a fuss, so deserve what they have earned.
2) The radical left, and the homosexual mob, do not really care about individuals. But they intensely care about public opinion. So had he just fired her, nobody would likely care. But firing her, and then saying it was because of her being a lesbian is going to set off a whiny and angry firestorm.
3) That there seems to be some scandal involved, as the real reason she was fired, is the icing on the cake.
The article opens with the fact that she was openly “gay.” I’m sure she has a partner and is pushing for the overturn of the state’s marriage amendment - that’s what openly “gay” means to these people.
There were verifiable instances of dereliction on duty, probably the tip of the iceberg. The fact that there had been no reprimands is easily explained by suffocating political correctness which looks away from self-proclaimed grievance groups, lawsuit-prone territory.
Kudos to the new mayor, who apparently recognizes and proclaims the nakedness of the emperor.
“Shes a lesbian?”
She’s a she?
"And the colored girls go 'doo do doo do doo do do do doo do doo do doo do do do dooooooo'...."
Which physically fit and mentally stable male officer got discriminated against so they could hire this pig?
More Cowbell and hair mousse please.
Agreed. Her real crime was finding that the mayor hired a crony.
I see no evidence that her orientation had anything to do with her job performance, or ever caused any problem.
If she happens to be an oathkeeper, and/or supports our 2nd amendment rights, etc., I'd be fine with having her as a police chief.
Sounds like the problem is with the new "mayor".
As long as they don't parade around mostly naked, flaunting it, I could care less about what a person does in the privacy of their own home, regarding homeysexuality.
