WASHINGTON – A prominent House Democratic leader showed his contempt for Republican voters Sunday, accusing a large portion of them of being racists. “To a significant extent the Republican base does have elements that are animated by racism. And that’s unfortunate,” said Long Island Rep. Steve Israel said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” Israel, who is chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, was only slightly less insulting to his Republican colleagues on Capitol Hill. Asked if they were racists, Israel responded: “Not all of them, of course not.” House Republicans tried to ignore the race-baiting jab.

I DO discriminate based on behavior from years of experience. And that is color blind.

They use it because it works, or at least it has.

They use it because the prominent people on our side are cowed into silence by the accusation.

They’ll stop using it when it stops working for this effect.

I used to talk politics as part of my job, and liberals are remarkably open about their beliefs in a business situation. Quite a few have told me that blacks will never be ready to compete without affirmative action because (in their racist view) those people just don't have the intellectual capacity to succeed on their own. When I contrast that with the conservatives I've worked with, few of whom think skin color matters at all, I'm disappointed in how poorly the GOP has marketed its values - and disgusted at how well the Democrats have marketed a culture of dependency.

What makes you think the GOP-e doesn't share the liberal viewpoint on blacks?

Conservatives might look beyond color and at character, but I doubt the party leadership does.

Averting some major scandal or failure if they’re falling back and regrouping with the racism stuff lately? Come on...it’s old and beat to death. Try something else already.
