I ususally prime my okra in a longish overnight soak in warm tap water + 1tbsp of bleach. Put seeds, water and bleach into a teacup and let sit on top of fridge from suppertime until the next day sometime. Never had a problem with okra germination since I’ve don that.

I’ve known about soaking okra seeds but never had to.

Like I said, I may have planted a little too early. But, one row came up and the other didn’t.

Hi Black Agnes! I haven’t done my weekly report yet, but have been reading through first. What a wonderful tip about the okra!

I obtained some seeds for a few strains of okra I had not tried yet. The only one I did last year that (and it turned out great) was the Clemson Spineless.

This year I bought some Orange Jing, Stelly, and Eagle Pass okra seeds.

I usually try starting my seeds in a sprout tray, transfer them to dirt cups, then finally into their destination pot or plot.

The Clemson and the Orange Jing have all sprouted, but the Stelly and Eagle Pass have just been lumps. Since I only tried to sprout about 5 each, I may try that bleach tip and see what happens. THANKS!
