6. Polo players hate being identified as polo players.

7. Hip-Hop music was popular in the 1920s.

8. F. Scott Fitzgerald plagiarized his novel from Nick Carraway.

9. CGI can be a great safety feature when you drive recklessly.

10. If you want to get out of a traffic ticket, just flash your Gatsby card at a cop.

11. Someone named Meyer Wolfsheim looks just like a South Asian guy with mutton chop sideburns that are both 50 years out of date and 50 years before they came back in style again.

12. In the 1920s, a plethora of servants are always on standby to wait on rich folks.

13. Writing a great American novel is a byproduct of mental health therapy.

14. Nick Carraway only got drunk twice in his life...until he went on a seven year bender.

Which one?

There are least 5 versions of it(1926, 1949, 1974, 2000, 2013).

I saw it a few days ago on a free preview. It was about as bad as they get at least if they spend more than $5000 to make it.

I actually liked the old version with Robert Redford. The story has quite a bit of F. Scot Fitzgerald and Zelda in it. For instance the young military man assigned to Maxwell Field in Montgomery, Alabama who falls in love with the Southern beauty from Montgomery, Alabama.

I almost watched this the other night, until I saw Leonardo Di Cappucino was in it.

2013 version. Note that CGI is mentioned in my list. Also I don’t think South Asian guys portrayed Meyer Wolfsheim in the other versions. Whether with or without muttoncop sideburns.

7. Hip-Hop music was popular in the 1920s. They just called it something else.

I saw The Great Gatsby but I can’t remember a single thing about it. Obviously I didn’t learn anything.

The only thing I liked about the Redford version was that he got shot down with a Colt New Service, so at least they got the guns right.

Read the book in high school. All I remember is thinking Gatsby was overrated. Didn’t think he was so great.

That’s ok, because virtually nothing Gatsby told Nick about himself was true. For example, the yachtsman/mentor story was nothing more than a version of Horatio Alger’s “Ragged Dick” stories -— swallowed whole, it appears, by midwestern, naive and somewhat bigoted Nick (although, to give him credit, he DID see through the Albanian medal story -— “little” Albania did not exist as a country when the medal was supposedly given).

I’ve seen all the movies thought the latest was by far superior to the others in terms of presenting the era and staying true to the book.

Beat me to it! I like my Colt 1917 in .45ACP with the original WWI pistol belt w/initials on the inside.

Redford is still saying stupid things, like he is Paul Newman’s afterlife.

I figure the 1926 one is probably the truest to the era:
