The one time I attended a race at Texas (Indycars) on Saturday it was 88F, sunny, and pretty darn hot.
A strong cold front came through overnight, it was raining, and when the race finally started about 5 pm Sunday it was mid 40s and windy. Really cold and damp. Luckily I had packed warm gear.
A beautiful day like that this time of year is almost a given a bad storm is right behind it.
I always feel bad for the fans who have to either delay traveling in (risking missing the start) or finding stuff to do for hours in the parking lots.
I missed the first 30-some laps of the 1995 Brickyard 400 due to rain and massive traffic jam when everybody sprinted for the track at the same time.
Yeah. I have thought it might be fun to go to a track, but those scenarios remind me why it might not be so fun.
I will have to make it to our local track some night. about 15-20 minutes from me.
Naw, they’d run a day-time race tomorrow. I’m getting tired of rain delays/changing networks (it’ll go to FS1 or 2 or .)
Read yet another article earlier this week about declining attendance at the track and (television) viewership. Interestingly enough (baseball) Spring Training and the recent NCAA tournament are setting records for high attendance. A google search shows articles talking about declining attendance re: NASCAR for each of the last several years. Well, by gosh, by golly if the “car of (generic) tomorrow” and ethanol fuel and tweaking the chase format doesn’t attract new viewers lets go to smaller engines w/less horse power, that’ll do it for sure.
I’m going to church. I need to get spiritual.
264 posts and we haven’t started the race yet.
Great thread!
Texas is a beautiful facility.
I’m sure with the new ginormous video board it’s even better.
Went to Bristol night race last August for first time, that is one of the most amazing events in all of sports.
Of course! And a walk-in humidor. The fancy cigar cutters, and lighters are located next to the propane bottle rental rack;-)
Ya didn’t even need a /sarc on that one, FRiend! That was heavier than the last thunderclap that sent my pups fleeing for the smallest, darkest crevasse they could find.
Say a good word for me, while yer in the pew...meanwhile I’ll try to coax my guard dog outta their hidey-holes;-)
mabarker1 is doing such a great job putting stuff in here! I really enjoy the old pics. I don’t know the history, but it is educational!
ok, about 4 hours until race time and i am still recovering from the croup. think i will snag a nap.
Poor pups. We have hounds - bassets to be precise. Hounds are usually pretty oblivious to loud, cracking noises. But, I also have a chihuahua we brought home when he was 6. For the first 2 years or so, nothing. He was one of the hounds. But about 8 or 9, he became terrified of: smoke detector alarms, thunder, lightning, fireworks, etc. Well, we brought him home a day before we brought home our youngest basset at 11 weeks old.
Now, the youngest basset trembles in terror when there are thunderstorms overhead. He has even been known to shamefully lose control of some bodily functions.
I feel bad for them in spring and late summer when we can have t-storms come over in the middle of the day and no one is home. Bless their hearts.
Yeah, I know...I’m 180 miles east, and it’s crappy here, too.
....by the way, Good Morning!
Bummed about the weather. Was looking forward to getting my “racing fix”.
