Riot Cop Violently Blindsides Girl On Street
This video has been removed by the user ^ | 3/31/14

A video uploaded by a Phoebe Landolt shows a riot cop assaulting a girl standing on the street. Police had been called in to quell a student riot in Arizona after the Wildcats lost their game to Wisconsin.

The girl in the video did not appear to be rioting or causing a scene, but the officer can be clearly viewed charging her and knocking her over for apparently no reason.

I have a name for men such as these....it begins with a “P” and it doesn’t stand for “police”....

You know that if that cop felt he was in the right those kids who called him a MFer would have been arrested and he wouldn’t have slunk away.

Well, maybe you aren’t in the best position to judge them then? Perhaps you should leave that to the folks who have seen both sides of the boys in blue, instead of those who only encounter “Officer Friendly”?

Why is it necessary to see BAD cops to have an opinion about them? Do you have to see Saudis to have an opinion about them? I don't think so. You aren't making sense to me. I think I'm in as good a position as anyone.

I've lived in this world for several decades and have had dealings with cops all over California, many other states, some parts of Europe and in Mexico AND Saudi Arabia. Having only "officer friendly" encounters only means that I was POLITE to them, showed them respect and DIDN'T act as if they were the KGB out to bash my head in.

NOTHING wrong or bad positioning when treating the boys in blue, wherever they are, with respect.

Actually I have been in LE for 22 years tomorow. Have been in two riot situations. Yes we trains yearly as a unit. What I object to is the line of thought here that nust because the CDU team is on scene...then it must be that they are looking to start a riot. It bs. They are on scene so that they don’t waste time trying to assemble in the event something actually breaks out. I heard the same tho g the last time we mobilized for a crowd of 5000 students burning dumpsters and committing property damage...” the riot didn’t start till the cops showed up in riot gear”.

So, , what, we wait until it gets as bad as that here before we object? NO! I will fight tyranny wherever it may be found.

And what ARE you talking about when you say before it gets "as bad as here"? When was it bad here? You have OBVIOUSLY never, ever lived/worked abroad and know NOTHING of the cops of the world. It's nice that you relate EVERY SINGLE THING IN YOUR LIFE to your limited experience but it just doesn't fadge when talking about cops, here or abroad.

You scream bloody murder about them but if you want one and he doesn't HOP TO IT AS FAST AS YOU WANT, then you ALSO scream bloody murder. Face it, you don't like cops and don't care to admit the truth. Am I wrong?

But go right ahead and FIGHT with the cops. You apparently LIKE the whole idea. And, hey, it's your wallet, not mine.

but IF they had already declared an unlawful assembly, then she probably should not have been [behind] what appears to be the skirmish line there.

I'm not happy with TPD officials. They escalated without doing a good job of securing the area. There were still people indoors. At least one of the establishments herded all the customers back inside when the police came. Also the side streets and pedestrian access were still open. It's a good thing it wasn't a real riot, the police might have taken some serious casualties from getting surrounded that way.

BTW, everyone who signed up for text alerts (including thankfully my daughter) got an alert:

UAlert Avoid Main Gate Tucson Police declare unlawful assembly @ maingate sq. public advised to avoid/exit area

The timestamp seems consistent with sending shortly before the game ended. So a number of people stepped out of the bars and restaurants into the situation. Since it's a small area prone to loud celebrations they may not have realized things were getting ugly. There was a celebration there Thursday night with just as many people and no significant issues reported.

It is important to note the young lady seemed to be walking in the direction of the skirmish line with a cup in her hand. The police officer might have been tasked to protect the rear and thought the girl was about to dump something hazardous on the backs of the police. It is also important to realize many young people are completely oblivious and lack situational awareness.

Frankly the baton position appears consistent with an unlawful and deadly assault. That's very disturbing. She could have been killed or seriously injured for literally just walking out of the coffee shop in the wrong direction. This could have turned out very badly and someone at TPD needs to re-think the police response to the whole episode.

I have dealt with good cops and the scrotum heads. Most cops think I’m a cop so they act accordingly.

There are more good ones than bad ones but there are bad cops out there. Some do provoke a reaction because they have a gun and a badge. To think otherwise is fantasy regardless of where you lived in the world. I have been all over too.

“Why is it necessary to see BAD cops to have an opinion about them? Do you have to see Saudis to have an opinion about them? I don’t think so.”

Well, a person with actual experience would give a more informed opinion. If I want information about Saudis, I would give more authority to someone who has known them, or lived in their country, than to someone who has just read books about them.

“I’ve lived in this world for several decades and have had dealings with cops all over California, many other states, some parts of Europe and in Mexico AND Saudi Arabia. You can’t explain away every case of police abuse by blaming the victims. Many of them weren’t showing any “disrepect” and they still wound up as victims. So, while your attitude may contribute to non-confrontational encounters with police, you have also simply gotten lucky and not met the wrong cop on the wrong day.

Bingo.
That cop waylayed a GIRL. What the hell?
Path of least resistance? What a female cat.
This girl was walking and not threatening anyone and the cop wolloped her. Nice. Good thing I am not her dad. I would have that cop’s ass and his boss’s ass.

There is no excuse for what he did.

I’ve lived abroad as well and one thing about cops is universally true: you don’t want to be around them.
TRUE but sometimes I have needed one, both here and abroad. Treating them like vermin is stupid. It's one thing to be a cop junkie, always fawning over them, but it's QUITE ANOTHER thing to treat them like the enemy.

They are, for the MOST part, dedicated men (and women) who do a job that HAS to be done. They HAVE to deal with the scum of the world and they deserve our support whether we like it or not. Denigrating them serves NO purpose but to make cop-haters feel good about their venting.

=============================================

Their reason for existing is to act as the muscle of the state. Beating and jailing people is their job. That’s why they carry clubs and handcuffs. Its not a fashion statement.
Yes, they are the MUSCLE of the state. EVERY state on the planet has them. Without them there would be chaos and every state on the planet knows that--and every state on the planet has PLENTY of police. OURS are some of the more honest AND educated on the planet. If you don't believe me TRY living in a third world sewer country for a little while and see what you think of THEIR police force.

Beating and jailing is PART of their job. So is helping stranded motorists, out-of-gas city drivers, noisy neighbors, lost tourists, drivers who locked their keys in their cars, drivers with flat tires, break and entry thieves, car part thieves, investigators of EVERY kind of crime knows to humanity...and so on. WHY focus on the beating and jailing when they ALSO do as much or more GOOD? They ARE hard, both genders. Their job makes them that way. Would you want NICE, SWEET, SOFT cops? I wouldn't.

Besides, who would keep all the junkies, hookers (both genders), pimps, bums, pickpockets and crazies from panhandling, harassing and annoying the HOLY PIE outta us?

Wow. What would they do “if and when” a REAL incident occurs (due to their indoctrinated fear)?

It seems that those who wish to subjugate us, firmly believe that WE haven’t the resolve to stop this madness. And maybe there ARE people working hard to circumvent the things that plague us but, imho, it’s going to take a mightier effort to jump on that front horse, grab the bridle and YANK that horse to a HALT...or else bad things are going to happen to the horse, cart, and driver.

I have worked with hundreds of officers over a 20+ year span. I have siblings who have been on the force 20+ years. I know how officers are trained to respond and behave under the most extreme of circumstances. I object to those officers who deviate from that training. Officers who escalate a situation instead of cooling it down. Officers whose ends justify the means. They are out there. I have worked with them. Because of their position of authority, their weaponry, their training, all of that makes them extremely dangerous to the public and creates in the eyes of many in that public a suspicion of ALL officers. I understand there are good and ‘bad’ officers out there but I don’t know each and every one. As a result I must protect myself by assuming the worst of every officer until they prove otherwise. Doesn’t mean I’m a jerk to officers, I’m just careful and maintain a healthy suspicion. Now that I know a little of your background, some of your previous comments reinforce my suspicion and carefulness...I honestly hope you are a ‘peace’ officer. I truly do.

NOT necessarily. It really depends on WHO the person is. Some people may have LOTS of experience, the "informed opinion," but have NOT used that experience wisely. I have met MANY educated DOPES who seemed to have wasted their education.

As for Saudi Arabia, I lived there, as you must know, but I NEVER deprecated OPINIONS about the Arab nation. People who "just read books" can have a WEALTH of information and conversely those who LIVED in Saudi Arabia can have (and have had) incredibly STUPID opinions about the country.
Lol. I do have to admit that those STUPIDS don't stay in the KSA very long. They wander about, glassy-eyed, billing and cooing in AMAZEMENT at every friggin' thing. They are TEDIOUS and the world lets them know it.
I was ALWAYS told that I would be a HORRIBLE poker face because my face almost ALWAYS expresses my feelings. I DO try to control my rolling eyes when dealing with the folks at Church who are simply TOO MUCH. I TRY to be kind. I am successful, oh several times. :o)

WHO is blaming the victim? NOT ME. Please no OLD chiches.

LUCKY not having met the wrong cop on the wrong day?
Well, NOT every encounter with cops was a good one but I never did turn it into a "victim" ordeal. I didn't turn them into the BAD guys because I ran the stop sign, because I didn't have my lights on, because I left my gas cap off or because my tags weren't up to date...ET CETERA.

Whenever I did get stopped, I treated them as civilly as I could, got my license out BEFORE they came to the window, did what they asked, said "yes" and "no" when appropriate and answered their questions--i.e. "Do you know why I stopped you?"

Just a month ago I slid through a stop sign in a nearby neighborhood and a cop HAPPENED to be there, which was unusual.
I was so flabbergasted at seeing him I didn't pull over for two blocks. When I finally did pull over (He had turned his light on), he asked, "Why didn't you stop sooner?"
I TOLD him that I did finally see him and was SHOCKED to see him in that neighborhood. I also said that I was probably brain dead for a few moments from the shock of seeing him in that neighborhood.
He lectured me for a few minutes, warned me and did NOT give me the deserved ticket.

Whew, sweaty palms thinking of it again.

Over thirty years ago. Things are not the same over there. I could write a book about all the horror stories that happened while I was there.
