Where did the original weak signal come from that the pilot Lang was asked to check out? Someone must have contacted the Molikai tower. Lang didn't find that aircraft by accident. Leaving them all in the water overnight until a search could be conducted at dawn might have had a totally different outcome, if the 'swimmer' hadn't made it to shore.

Then there is the matter of diagnosing the ABC acquired film from the passenger with the go pro—an entirely different matter.
Depends on who got their hands on it first. Wouldn't the authorities have been within their rights to confiscate the film and any stills, for the purpose of an investigation? How did the ABC get hold of it? Who were the two 'tourist' passengers who were never identified? Did they perhaps ask for their identity to be kept private, and might that be why the film was pixilated?
Any way you cut it its bizarre.
