If you had, you would not have been able to forget. Anyone who hasn’t, should. Volume One is the best translation, Two isn’t quite as good, a little harder to read. Both are an unforgettable experience.

You could start with “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich” (sp?). It’s quite short, a “fictionalized” day in the gulag. I read it in one night, couldn’t put it down. Read most of “Gulag” at my parents’ house while visiting, I really need to buy it and read it all. I didn’t know there were two volumes.
