You could start with “One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich” (sp?). It’s quite short, a “fictionalized” day in the gulag. I read it in one night, couldn’t put it down. Read most of “Gulag” at my parents’ house while visiting, I really need to buy it and read it all. I didn’t know there were two volumes.

thank you. it’s much easier for me to read (at this point in my unemployed life) something short. i will look for it at the local library.
