The Westboro Baptist Church is saying that it will picket an Oklahoma liquor store that put up a sign mocking the death of the groups founder, Fred Phelps.
Phelps died on March 20 at the age of 84.
To commemorate the occasion, Moore Liquor decided to have a champagne sale and posted a sign reading, "Fred Phelps 1929-2014, Champagne 10% off! Not a coincidence."
The WBC doesnt find the sign funny and plans to protest. The store sounds fine with it.
"I was a little reticent about putting up the sign in the first place because I have two good parents who raised me not to speak ill of the dead, but I couldnt help feeling that the world was a better place without Fred Phelps," store owner Bryan Kerr told the Huffington Post.
"He did so much to spread his special brand of hatred while bastardizing Christian principles that I thought it might be appropriate to recognize his lack of corporeal existence with some celebration. As a Christian myself, I truly hope that Fred found some peace with God and maybe even had a change of heart before passing."
Supporters of the Rev. Fred Phelps, of the Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church, demonstrate outside the funeral service for Marine Lance Cpl. Rex Arthur Page
The day of the protest, he should have a 50% off sale to celebrate their protest.
Watch as the protesters are ran over by capitalism.
I think this will backfire on WBC big time. When people want alcohol, they will support their convenient location and laugh in the faces of the WBC protesters. There is no moral outrage involved comparable to WBC’s wicked protests at military funerals.
Christian's don't picket soldier's funerals!
Sounds like this liquor store owner will have a lot of money to count in the days ahead. Hope he’s well stocked on champagne.
WBC picketing Moore Liquor will undoubtedly be good for business, I’m sure the owner is pleased.
Let's see if I can make sense of it.
The Westboro Baptist Church is going to picket a liquor store.
I thought Baptists weren't drinkers. So, what are they trying to accomplish?
Nope, can't make sense of it at all.
Notice they never picket Gay Pride Parades.
All the businesses in that area should do likewise.
All the free publicity will probably make Bryan Kerr, the owner, happy as a bird-fed cat.
Perfect!
That sign needs to go in front of the liquor store when the church is protesting.
They’re as much Catholic as they are Baptist.
As much as I think Phelps was totally wrong, and as much as I think Phelps deserved retribution, I think disturbing a funeral is such terrible form that I’d avoid his methods.
“Vengeance is mine; I will repay,” saith the Lord.
IMO they are doing this to create more hatred for Christians. They are Dems.
FRED looks like the ghost preacher in POLTERGEIST II. Maybe they better drive a stake through his heart before burial.
