I built a house on the Eastern shore of Maryland 10 years ago. I installed a 40KW Generac that uses propane for fuel. I purchase two 1000 gallon tanks that were put underground. Also purchased a 400 amp switch that automatically starts the generator and powers the whole house. The lights blink and only the microwave has to be reset........
I use propane for under floor radiant heat and 2000 gallons last for about 1.75 years.
Total cost was close to 25K but was and is worth doing with new construction. It was financed into the cost of construction .
We have been off line many times in the last 8 years. A few years back we were out of power for 4 days during a major storm.
Needless to say our neighbors had a green look on their faces for the duration.
