I’ll go pretty much with #1 - plane is now parked off an abandoned military strip in Laos (why else did it make such an obvious reversal in its original course and fly around for awhile in the Indian Ocean but to draw attention away from its destination close to its original flight path - and who knows what goes on in Laos) - plane is being repainted in US military scheme and will be flown in a matter of weeks into some high profile target in China to get the US and China into a war, while the real perps, Putin agents, pick up the marbles.....

It was hijacked by Chinese muslim separatists from Xinjiang from western China. The plane was intended to be flown to and landed there. Possibly for use later as ‘bomb’ to attack government target or to attract attention to the cause, etc. Did it get there?
Doubtful, it could evade Chinese air defense detection. The jet was possibly shot down for not having a transponder on - or perhaps the Chinese figured out the plot, and a decision was made to shoot it down to spare the Chinese the trouble of dealing with terrorists, negotiations, giving more notoriety to the movement, etc.
The Chinese wanted to deflect attention from their possible involvement and knowledge, so they offered satellite photos placing ‘wreckage’ in the waters near Malaysia and ‘seismic’ events - all in an effort to keep attention away from China.

#1 for me . . . I’ve thought so since the beginning. Doubt the passengers are alive since they took it up to 45K feet and the passengers probably passed out and then asphyxiated then. I doubt they crashed it on purpose, since why would you go to all that trouble and then crash it? I think they either have it squirreled away some place for later use (possibly as a vehicle for a bomb) or they may have miscalculated and ditched it in the water accidentally. But terrorists have patience. They *must* find this plane or we’ll be watching our backs for the next decade.

Do we know there was ONLY ONE flight plan filed for that aircraft?
The plane couldn’t possibly enter foreign (read India) airspace without a flight plan. But if a SECOND flight plan was secretly filed by the pilot, he could then turn the transponder back on in the middle of nowhere and squawk a new ident code, thus appearing to be a legitimate flight.
As for the passengers, I fear they were eliminated. Depressurization would do the trick in a matter of seconds, leaving just the bodies to drag away. (Somebody would have made a call by now if they were still alive.)
