Was it ultimately a race about race?
The best picture Oscar is meant to honor the year's greatest achievement in film, and "12 Years a Slave" had no shortage of supporters before winning the top honor Sunday. But for all the film's artistry, the undercurrent of many "12 Years a Slave" conversations hinged on race and how Hollywood has for decades given short shrift to one of the most inglorious chapters in the nation's history.
All the same, two Oscar voters privately admitted that they didn't see "12 Years a Slave," thinking it would be upsetting. But they said they voted for it anyway because, given the film's social relevance, they felt obligated to do so.

“It’s bad enough we have to vote for this crap, do you expect us to watch it too?”
Best Socially Relevant Picture
Best Foreign Socially Relevant Picture
Best Short... Socially Relevant Picture
All New Categories for the 2015 Oscars...should we live so long.
I’d love to hear their explanation of how its “socially relevant”.
Obama won the Nobel Peace Prise without doing anything.
so what movie will win in 2015? 12 Years Of the KKK?
Best Film that Capitalizes on White Guilt Film
I'm guessing it won't include the absolute power of government to control our lives with ObamaCare, the trampling of freedom for employers who are being forced against their will to pay for the abortions of innocent unborn babies, and other far left steps toward restoring the Democrats' beloved slavery.
White Guilt President, White Guilt Film, why not?!
Don’t be surprised if it isn’t.
The KKK will be portrayed as all white male Republicans and their lynching victims will be nothing but Trayvon lookalikes trying to cast their first votes.
The same reasoning that went into voting for best picture was used in 2008 and 2012.
Progressives are the social engineers who perpetually need to “help” blacks ... Why not Affirmative Action Oscars?
Coming next...reparations paid to all blacks for slavery of 150 years ago, and payment for any and all discrimination today.
Milli Vanilli won a Grammy without doing anything either....I’m sure that’s where Stockholm got the idea to give it to Obozo. It’s interesting that Mahatma Gandhi never won the Nobel Peace Prize and he was all about peace, but Gore and Obama did. Hummmmmmmmm.
“But they said they voted for it anyway because, given the film’s social relevance, they felt obligated to do so.”
I can see this on Rush’s “I told you so”.
He was on it Bigtime today
maybe some producer should make a movie called “25 Years Of The Redskins”, and see if it gets nominated, or maybe even, 25 years of “White Hispanics”.
Happens all the time. It shouldn’t, but it does.
How appropriate. The Oscars, as fake as the movies they reward.
