Ever since the Japanese original "Godzilla" (first titled "Godjira") took the horror genre to all new heights, literally and figuratively, with its larger-than-life reptilian beast, there've been a number of very varied attempts to capitalize on the creature's fear potential. The latest of which director Gareth Edwards's upcoming release starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston just released a new trailer that is bigger in scale than any previous incarnation, smashing up everything from San Francisco to Las Vegas
While some installments have been more favored than others, from the looks (and sounds) of this newest iteration it seems that Edwards's take might just be hearkening back more to the roots of Godzilla's movie magic especially within the latest round of materials released from the pic.

You mean the “Godzilla Versus Ferris Bueller” movie ???
I liked that. I thought it gave the movie a cinema verite "you are there" quality. Oh well, different strokes.
<I raised my son on ALL the Godzilla movies.
We’ll be front row center for this one.
Last night, my (grown) son sent me the link to the trailer. He has been a Godzilla fan from way back, so I know he was excited. I thought the trailer looked pretty good; I’m willing to use my senior discount to go see it. : )
Funny story - when son was about 3-4, I took him to school with me. There were some Asian guys hanging around the door chatting. Son looks up at me excitedly and says, “Mommy, look! They look like Godzilla people.” I guess it was the first time he really noticed a difference in the races.
Okay. I wasn’t sure if they were making a pun about Japanese pronunciation of English or if that was some reference I’d never heard before. I can see that turning into “Godzilla” all right.
What does it matter? Mothra could kick his but anyways.
Yes, the handheld filming was a little too Blair Witch-y, wasn’t it?
I remember that scene. As I recall it’s at the very end of the movie on what is supposed to be the “found tape”. I didn’t see in the movie theatre, only when I looked it up sometime after the release on Youtube. It is TINY!
Based on the trailer; it appears this Godzilla flick will feature the element of horror that has been missing since the very first film...
Loved the Gorgo movie...the humans thought they had everything under control with ‘Junior’ until Mom came to town looking for him. Classic.
I think it was a combination of gorilla and lizard.
Excellent choice. So delightfully bad in a class all its own.
Isn’t that the one with endless cuts of stock military footage of American hardware and the same armored cars?
If there was only a modern day incarnation of Raymond Burr instead of that guy.
Gojira (ゴジラ) is a portmanteau of the Japanese words: gorira (ゴリラ, "gorilla"), and kujira (鯨(クジラ), "whale")

Thank you, my memory was faulty.
Dan dan wasuretteimasu, nihongo wa.
So far, the best Godzilla movie ever made has been...Pacific Rim.
That WAS a great Monster movie, wasn’t it?
Please for the love of all that is holy, this better not have a P Diddy cover of Led Zeppelin this time, like in the last Godzilla movie.
No,Pacific Rim was a horrible funny movie. It was Power Rangers versus Godzilla, right down to the super duper megasword at the end.We laughed so much we almost got asked to leave.
