Ever since the Japanese original "Godzilla" (first titled "Godjira") took the horror genre to all new heights, literally and figuratively, with its larger-than-life reptilian beast, there've been a number of very varied attempts to capitalize on the creature's fear potential. The latest of which director Gareth Edwards's upcoming release starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, and Bryan Cranston just released a new trailer that is bigger in scale than any previous incarnation, smashing up everything from San Francisco to Las Vegas
While some installments have been more favored than others, from the looks (and sounds) of this newest iteration it seems that Edwards's take might just be hearkening back more to the roots of Godzilla's movie magic especially within the latest round of materials released from the pic.

Here’s my prediction for the plot. Global warming has caused the ocean temperatures to rise so dramatically that Godzilla has been forced to come ashore. Most of Godzilla’s destruction will be aimed at evil oil companies for the noxious fumes that are polluting the environment.
Was that the stinker that starred Matthew Broadrick?
Yeap.
I liked that Godzilla. I just didn’t like Matthew Broderick.
I REALLY hope that movie doesn’t suck eggs. :(
I have been a Godzilla fan for years.
So far, the best Godzilla movie ever made has been...Pacific Rim.
OO that was a really good trailer I have to say!
“”Godzilla” (first titled “Godjira”)..”
Pardon my ignorance, but.......???
I enjoyed the Emmerich take, without thinking it was especially outstanding. I think the new one looks very promising.
Where Godzilla is concerned, I’m just glad that I was finally able to see “Gojira” in its original form by way of DVD.
Godzilla (first titled Godjira)..
Pardon my ignorance, but.......???
The Japanese words were "gojira" which translates to "large lizard". Say it fast enough and with enough repitition, it sounds like 'godzilla'.
Looks promising.
As a side note - I still hope that JJ Abrams makes a sequel to Cloverfield.
I raised my son on ALL the Godzilla movies.
We’ll be front row center for this one.
I really expected him to be much larger.
Correction to my previous. Gojira comes from two Japanese kanji that roughly are “gorilla (gorira)” and “whale (kujira>”.
The critter is called a “kaiju” which is large (or great) strange, creature or monster: kai=large/great ju=strange creature.
I think they use a lot of mirrors.
Michelle is not amused.
As an aside, I've never heard anyone respond to this in the affirmative. At the end of the movie, they do a small clip of the male and female leads at Coney Island on the ferris wheel and in the ocean background you can see something big-ish fall out of the sky and hit the water. You see it?
