The militarization of US police forces is ongoing and escalating. Many cities and towns now own tanks, armed personnel carriers, even attack helicopters, and almost all are outfitted with military weapons not available to the general public.
And, it is not just your hometown cops who are getting new boy-toys. The military itself is buying up weaponry not just for use in the current or next scheduled war, but to deal with the likes of you...
Also ignored (as if it didn’t even exist) is the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 which generally bars the military from law enforcement activities within the United States.
According to Public Intelligence:

Spot on Rusty. Moreover, once vengeance is unleashed against their families, and they find themselves unable to get out of the car at the gas station, or shop at the grocery store or walk their dog. When the mayor goes missing and the chief of police is in hiding.

The same goes for cops. If they are part of confiscation teams they are not “our” cops. They aren’t following the Constitution by confiscation firearms from US citizens. They will be targets, as will be their elected civilian superiors.
I pray that these men and women will see the light before we ever get anywhere close to a shoot out.

A 6’ deep 6’ wide trench, covered with 3/4” plywood and sod would stop most of the little armored vehicles cops use, until they got pulled out by a very large tow truck.

I think also there will be a panic in the rest of the world, maybe if that CWII scenario would pass, it could cause a chain reaction and destablize other nations to the point of them having their civil wars too. Some nations who remain stable or reasonably so, will have a great fear, who controls our nukes? The Russians, Red Chinese, maybe even the Indians, the UK and French and a few others would want to try to seize our nukes somehow and failing that, ala the John Titor story, might launch a limited strike to take them out or what’s left of the nation’s leadership to hopefully stop any orders to launch them. I know if I was Putin, the Red Chinese leader or even part of NATO, that alone would be a concern of mine. Mexico and Canada would have a hard time controlling the borders stopping Americans from fleeing, are the Mexican/Canadian border patrols along with their armies, strong enough?
The government has armor, air power, artillery, the shut off switch to the internet, nukes, and a red phone to the UN to get millions of foreign troops here quickly.

Because the government, who will give the orders, is made up of people. The Secret Service and police can't protect every politician, judge, donor, vocal supporters, employees and families. How many of the above would have to die before they started turning on each other to save themselves?
The military and militarized police all get their orders from someone else. If 1,000,000 gun owners decided to go traitor hunting and the word was spread ahead of time that it was open season on anyone who supported gun control, instead of playing defense, the tyranny would stop pretty quickly.
