I may be dead wrong but there appears to be a bit of an inconsistency here. It is my hazy understanding that if you are given Medicaid benefits the government has the right to come after you in later years for the money paid out for you under Medicaid. If that is true, then they certainly have something to lose.

They can come after your estate assets (including your real property) even in cases where you have already transferred it to your children in anticipation of death.

Of course, after fifty years of Communist rule you won't have any assets to be confiscated so it will be a moot point. But in the meantime, you'll get the best of "free" socialist health care, Comrade!

All medical debt can be discharged by filing a Chapter 7 Bankruptcy.

So, a young person with no assets who is unlucky enough to get hurt of seriously ill, would be better off running up the debt on Medicaid and then declaring bankruptcy to void future repayment.
