It's hard to picture what today's teenagers will wax nostalgic about 30 years from now when they reminisce about their first car. (It still required gasoline, perhaps?) Who knows how automobiles will change in the future; what we do know is how different they are today from 30 or more years ago. If you fondly remember being surrounded by two or three tons of solid Detroit steel with a whip antenna on the front from which you could tie a raccoon tail or adorn with an orange Union 76 ball, and enough leg room that you didn't suffer from phlebitis on long road trips, then you might also miss a few of these.

1. Bench Seats

If you really search.. They are still out there. Lexus makes one, Hyundai gets close with the elantra touring...

I love them too.

Not as long as there are sports cars and econoboxes.

Not so fast.. CVT econoboxes can actually do better than manuals and the “flappy paddle” gear boxes are taking hold in the sports cars.

Yes, Dodge does, but I don’t want to give $ to Fiat. Of course, I think since Obama took my money, I should get a free car from GM (I want a Better) and a free car from Chrysler (a Jeep with Daisy Duke driving :-).

One of the tire companies had a team compete in Car and Driver's One Lap of America in a Corvette with one tire as a compact spare just to prove how durable they are. I think they "limit" the speed and range on them because no one ever checks them to see if they're properly inflated.
-------------------------------------------------------------
fixed it for ya.. I see lots of people rolling the flat spare. I guess they put it on, realize it's flat and say eff it and drive off.

If Telsa made a Country Squire-ese (with the 3 way tailgate) wagon, I would buy it.

I had one of these station wagons...I forget the tailgate could swing down or swing open with a lever adjustment

Mine was a chrysler wagon...finally got rid of it when literally everything that could leak did...

Oilpan, radiator, brake fluid, powers steering, wiper fluid, transmission

It had like 85,000 miles on it...

***Trucks still have steel bumpers. Been rear ended twice. No damage to me.**

I got rear ended a couple of years ago. My Dodge truck thin steel chrome plated bumper was caved in and under. It happened in front of a cop. Lucky me.

With the settlement I bought a real 1/4 inch real steel bumper! Got rear ended again a few weeks later. No damage to my Dodge. Her front bumper had a nice dent all the way across her plastic bumper.

If I ever decide to sell this truck, I will pull off the good bumper and place the old bumper back on as I kept it in my scrap pile.

Let’s not forget the starter button on the floor by the accelerator. Turn on the key, press the clutch with the Left foot, press the starter button with the right foot, when the car starts press the accelerator with the right foot.

FORD - Fix or repair Daily. or Found on road dead.

Then there were the 1974-75 Chevys. “Listen quietly on a cold clear night, and you can hear a CHEVY RUST!”

Manuals are still cheaper for the base models of econoboxes. You are right that the “fuel economy” argument v an automatic is disapperaing.
