We’re at 32 in the Texas Hill Country but tomorrow is supposed to be around 70 this weekend. Dug around and found some old insulated curtains and pinned them up because the bedrooms aren’t getting above 62. I bought those old things before we were married and they’ve been cut and resewn and off with the kids to college and to granny’s and back again. And people wonder why I don’t throw stuff away.

We’ve had the crud all week so I dug up a ginger root for hot tea and that’s helped tremendously.

I just about finished up another round of seeds inside but ran out of starting soil before getting the peppers potted up. I had wanted to combine the last with some potting soil but Mother Nature is still getting her jollies by putting some sort of fungus/mold on the top of the huge bag of potting soil that I’d only used enough last summer for one hanging basket.

The cabbage is very slow to germinate. It’s been 3 weeks so half may have to be reseeded. The tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts, etc. are doing fine with only a pot or two here and there needing reseeded. But they’re not getting any sun on these cold dreary days.

Still saving gallon milk jugs in hopes of the tomatoes needing a bigger home before they go out in April.

I’m jealous just thinking about 70 degrees. We are in for another blast of cold unless the forcast for next week changes.

We are going to have to do some serious draft reduction around here. I have been discussing it with Hubby. See I have to discuss it for quite a while, and he’ll finally say ok I’ll do that when the weather gets better.

When the weather gets better, he always has other stuff that is an excuse. Finally I get to remind him that he said he would do that when the weather got better, better is here, and when does he think he could work it into his schedule, and do I need to get any materials to help him do it?

Then it usually gets done.LOL

We haven’t lived in a real ‘house’ to have accumulated curtains so I’ve resorted to buying these for our windows as money will allow:

And boy have they made a difference so far. Especially in the kids rooms. My mom has some (insulated curtains) but it hasn’t been cold enough to need them at my house before. And she’s been surprisingly unwilling to give hers up!

Brrrrr, has it been cold! Hopefully I can have all the windows equipped with these by next winter. Of course if I do it will likely be the warmest winter in 100 years LOL.

Consider using some bottom heat for seed germanation.
While the "Cole crops"(brussle sprouts, broccoli, cabbage, etc.)plants are known to be cold hardy , the seeds germanate better with heat.
