It was 50 years ago today that The Beatles landed in America for the first time. Could any other group ever hope to top the talents of these beloved moptops? Well ...Yeah, yeah, yeah! Check out 11 bands that I think took the Fab Fours pop revolution and made it even better, way beyond compare

Agreed. They were a commercial band before they were successful, and the music lacks any feeling.
The Stones were much, much better and far more creative
Jagger is the absolute genius who studied the blues and other early influences. The Stones earliest music is the blues, and they stayed true to their baseline music and never stopped innovating. For me, Aerosmith is the other group that succeeds so brilliantly at that.
Pink Floyd, or Fleetwood Mac, ELO, BOC or the Doors
I agree with your list, but only like Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks. I wonder what heights the Doors could've achieved if Jim Morrison had stuck around. I'd add Moody Blues for innovation and to pi** off the R&R HOF. Janis Joplin with her backup band belongs on even a short list. My other addition to your list would be the Eagles, even though Don Henley can be irritating.
The Beatles wouldn't be on my list of the 25 greatest bands ever. I never was a fan...even back 50 years ago.
“They were more popular than Rod. “
Yes. A living legend that will live long after other living legends have died, or something like that. One of my favorite movies.
I’m an 81 year old woman who never liked the Beatles and adored The Stones.
Great list.
.
George Martin indeed had a lot to do with developing the Beatles, but they gave him a lot to work with. They had honed their technical skills to the limits of their talent, and they had two (eventually three) skilled songwriters in the band.
re: “Wasnt their run about 4 years? . . . not impressed”
Actually, they were number 1 in England prior to coming to the U.S. Their run with worldwide fame was basically about 1962 - 1970 (when they broke up). Which, I agree, isn’t very long compared to some other bands, but, quite incredible if you consider the tremendous influence they had (and still have) on pop/rock music. The Stones hasn’t changed their sound much since the sixties. I like some of their music, but they did not make the impact upon pop music like the Beatles did.
Other performers made huge impacts on rock/pop later on, like Jimi Hendrix, the Who, Led Zeppelin (just, “Stairway to Heaven” alone was a mega hit), but no one has come close to the musical impact that the Beatles made on the world (good or bad).

Totally agree with you.
Stupid list....A valid list would have to include:
The Rutles.(of whom the Beatles were really just a cheap rip-off),
E.L.O.,
Status Quo,
I’m upset that Dexy’s Midnight Runners didn’t make the list.
This list fails because of the inclusion of ZEP... and because it fails to include the Patti Smith Group or Steve Forbert.
I never liked any of those eleven, but I agree about ELO. Other favorites include Moody Blues, and Renaissance with Annie Haslam
Credence Clearwater Revivval (CCR) was certainly influential for years to come.
Come to these threads if you want to (and have to!) meet Captain Obvious, and entertain yourself with some conventional wisdom which isn’t wisdom at all.
1. Nine Inch Nails
2. Ministry
3. Dead Kennedys
4. Black Flag

Quod Erat Demonstrandum - The Dog
U2, Radiohead, Bruce Springsteen? No. The others? Perhaps.
Wow, I’m a big fan of Steve Forbert, but didn’t expect to see his name in this thread. I never understood Patti Smith’s appeal. I saw her open for Neil Young when I saw him with Crazy Horse a year or so ago. Between all of the left wing political nonsense and her near constant hocking of loogies on the stage I wasn’t very impressed. Of course, Neil didn’t impress me much either. My only claim to fame in this life is that I booed Neil Young at that concert and he heard me and basically told me to sod off. There was something about hearing twenty-five minutes of nothing but ear-splitting feedback while I sat in my $150 seat and drank my $14 beer that hit me the wrong way.
Is that Pete Best in the middle of that picture? If not, it’s a dead ringer.
The Beatles are the most over-rated rock group of the 20th Century, and the first 13 years of the 21st.
At best, they were a mediocre pop group. At their worst, they were an overblown, overwrought, self-indulgent bunch of pompous gasbags that contributed greatly to the amoralization of culture that happened in the late 60s.
