“Sagan was the perfect TV scientist”
Right, he put a public face on science, he sold it.
The music for this “new” show should be this:
Too Old To Rock’n’Roll Too Young To Die
Yep, sounds about right.
Ditto! They screwed up the remake of Wild Wild West by putting an Amish guy in the lead and now this?
Me too!
Yep. That says it.
Bought the complete VHS series at Goodwill for $3.99 DEAL!
A little while back, some program on Fox News Channel(?) had a replay of ABC’s Jennings and Koppel looking at Ronald Reagan in his final year (1988) and asking ‘notables’ about his impact on history. Carl Sagan was one of the majority liberals in speaking their politics and blasting RR as a ineffective and low-rated President. Made me smile!
Agreed. Not sure at all if I’ll like Tyson’s version. But, if I can tolerate Morgan Freeman, who’s an even bigger racist, then I can probably watch this.

That’s the feeling I get, but it makes him perfect as a spokesperson for astronomy. He’s engaging and excellent at relating ideas in terms lay people can understand. That’s something that most scientists I know cannot do, at least not in any sort of engaging manner. I think that makes Tyson the one person I know who can at least succeed Sagan in popularizing astronomy.
Sagan’s Cosmos series influenced my upbringing and helped get me interested in space and science in general. It had an even bigger impact on my parents, who in turn helped encourage me to pursue science. I don’t know if the reboot will have the same effect on people or not, but I sincerely hope that it will.
Agreed. I found this little compilation video to be quite inspiring. Tyson was not a fan of Obama’s decision to axe the Constellation program.

We’ve deceived ourselves as a nation into thinking that our supremacy in space is permanently secure or otherwise unimportant, all while hostile nations make advances into spaceflight. And as Tyson points out, we lost sight of the intangible benefits of continuing to push the envelope.
Human exploration breeds better technology
Tyson is an affirmative action bad joke. I turn him off whenever he comes on. My son hates him.
Dr. “George” was a perfect gentleman, so it was surprising to hear his characterization of der Grosse Karl. He didn’t actually say anything derogatory, but I believe he did use the words “rum and coke-a-cola”, “volleyball” and “co-eds”.
I can’t get enough space stuff. Watching one on the Science channel right now about supermassive black holes and their relationship with the galaxies.
Loved him and the whole shebang until I found out we have him to thank for the entire ‘greenhouse effect’ BS - only because he couldn’t face being wrong about Venus NOT having a temperature like Earth AND THAT ITS SURFACE WAS MOLTEN!
So every time I hear ‘global warming’ I think of that weasel. His legacy is AL GORE and the greatest fraud perpetrated by the UN.
