I have never in my life heard of a “peplum” or “bandeau”. Nor can I conjure up even the foggiest mental picture of what a “fold-over ankle boot” or a “mullet dress” is.

What sort of men are being asked these questions, and what sort of men are in a position to answer them?

I'd venture to guess they were probably metrosexual or gay.

Follow the links and you’ll see examples.
Most of the allegedly offending items are pretty attractive when used right. And a lot of the “negative” remarks are just being misinterpreted.

Again, it’s not what you’ve got, it’s what you do with it.

A peplum is a little ruffle on the bottom edge of a short jacket that stops at the waist. It may stick out a little, especially at the back. The fashion comes and goes, but most people think that a woman who is wearing a dress or suit that has a peplum waist is trying to look nice and sort of dressed up.

A bandeau top on a bikini is one that goes straight across the breasts and around the chest without straps to hold it up. It’s not sewn into a particular shape; the breasts give it its shape. My experience is that a majority of men don’t object to seeing an attractive woman wearing one of these. At all.

I assume that a mullet dress is short in the front, long in the back. I had wondered what they are called and agree—ugly.
Peplum is an ornamental ruffle on a dress or jacket near the waist, I think.
Bandeau just means strapless with heavy wiring, probably.
A fold over ankle boot probably is just a boot with the upper part made of such soft material it can be folded over, like a cuff.

Baseball cap, no makeup, mens’ shirt and jacket with Levi’s 501s or sweatpants and athletic shoes has always been my standard uniform when I don’t want to be noticed. A nice flattening athletic bra also helps.

I had to do a search for “poplum”, “bandeau” and “mullet dress”. I suppose it takes a certain type of “man” to know those terms. What I hate are those ankle booties. They look like goat hooves and do nothing to enlongate the leg.

I’m sure that gay ‘fashion experts’ know exactly what those are. They probably designed them.
