No idea. It happened right after the hard freeze we had. I can't see any fungi, nematodes (don't have a microscope, but do have strong loupe) or anything else.

Winter wheat is supposed to be able to survive cold weather.

We have had snow and ice on our winter wheat before, but never had it turn brown like that.
