Today I went to a local supermarket in the Terra Linda area of Marin County, a little north of San Francisco. This large grocery store is but one of many belonging to a very popular grocery retailer. So, I bought six pounds, and eight ounces of chicken thighs at $1.79 per pound. After a little walk around comparison, I see most are within this price range. I end up paying $10.88, minus $1.21 with my Club Card, that equals a grand sum total of $9.67 out of pocket. The store is a great place to shop. The areas are clean. I even know some of the cashiers individually. The employees don't run away or openly sneer if you have questions about location. It's a huge store, and the less ambulatory or the tired have been known to shop from a golf cart. The store has a self check that I only use when in a big rush. I prefer not using the self-check, and let the paid cashier do the necessary thinking to get me through the line. So what am I complaining about? Well, the price. A few months ago, this same package of chicken thighs, wings or drums would have cost me much less. I am estimating, this pack of meat I just paid $9.67 for (with discount) would have cost me about $5.40 or so (with discount) only six months ago. What has changed? Maybe the gasoline for the trucks has gone up. They may be using diesel. The gas price has been somewhat stable at $3.45 to $3.90 up and down for the last year. Maybe the price has changed because people will keep buying it. Has there been a Chicken shortage in the states? That would be bad news for KFC.
All of the chickens are going to the White House to roost

LOL!
Nothing other than personal observation but I’ve seen the local hipster crowd move from breast to thighs. If it’s a nationwide culinary thing that may be a contributing factor.
California law requires all chickens to maintain a gym membership until the date of slaughter....really meaty thighs :-)
It’s not just chicken. Have you seen bacon? It’s all going to China especially since they now own Smithfield.
It is possible that the price of chicken feed has gone up. Feed is made up of corn to a large extent. Corn is more expensive because a lot of it is being diverted to ethanol production.
Congress left for the holiday without passing the farm subsidies. Prices are going to rise across the board—food, animal food, etc.
Just bought a package of ten thighs for about $5 and bacon can be had for under $3.
Have you forgotten that little law that was passed in California a few years ago that mandated that chicken had to be raised in a humane way? This of course caused the price of chicken to go way up.
I don’t recall chicken thighs particularly but the last time I was shopping it seemed many things had gone up in the last month. I even emailed my daughter mentioning that.
I used to buy chicken thighs and drumsticks for only 29 cents a pound. I would grill them and they were really tasty. I did not put anything on them but salt and pepper.
That sucks. I have always preferred the dark parts of a chicken. Sandwiches is all I like breasts for.
My guess is because mrs bill is getting ready to announce her intent to become president and they are getting ready for runs on the "hillieri clinton special".
The "one huge left wing" need will siply mean that the normal packages of hot wings or buffalo wings dishes will consist entirely of right wings for some time to come.
Note too that I made no mention of her getting elected to the position. After the other debacles when leftwing radicals were selected for the position (BJ and Barky being two of the most prominent among them) despite their obvious criminal tendencies, I have no faith that anything at all like a free and honest election is going to occur.
Thank the gouls who have decreed that corn should be turned into alcohol to blend with gasoline. It all has to do with what turning food into fuel has to do with the price of food in general. Get on your soap box and start yelling obsenities at the EPA etc who are responsible for this terrible injustice that results in more polution because alcohol is less efficient as a fuel than gasoline.
Like Betty Grable, maybe you should insure them
BINGO! I think that ethanol use has a lot to do with prices. I believe Obama was altered last year that these ethanol price boosts were drastically reducing affordable food for developing countries, so would he please, like, tap the brakes on ethanol use, exploration, manufacturing out of a show of compassion? Answered by Obama’s 30% INCREASE in ethanol R&D last year. This is yet another hook a real conservative would have seized on and publicized. That, needless to say, did not happen. Most people know nothing about Obama’s administrative “FU!” to the World Bank.
I only buy bacon when I’m having company, which I will be doing over Christmas.
I was stunned at the price when I saw it this week.
I refuse to pay it.
.
LOL! and I suppose it is especially true of the Tyson product!
