By eyeballing that map, looks like the result of such a disunion would be two red states, two blue states, and two purple-ish ones.

I would love to bust that state up. It has too much say in the presidential election with the leftist cities pulling the whole state even thought there are a lot of conservatives in other parts. Plus, breaking it up might create more opportunities for conservative Senators.

Which is much better than all presidential electoral votes going to Democrats each election.

By the logic applied, it should be five. The purple state needs to be split in two with the coastal portion going with the yellow “Silicon Valley” and the inland with the red mountain “state.”

This is pure fantasy. Everyody knows that there can only be one California, and that it looks like this:

So we'll have 12 liberal Rat Senators from CA in Washington instead of 2 now.

If you cut out Los Angeles and the Bay Area you would have a generally conservative state in California. I guess the folks up in Silicon Valley are tired of supporting the leaches down south. Well, welcome to California you liberal tech wizzes!

I say go for it.
I bet there’s a whole lot of people in Northern CA who would be happy to be rid of Southern CA.
Kind of like the way a lot of people in CO wish Denver would go take a flying leap at a rolling doughnut.

Wow, I don’t drink vodka, but I buy it sometimes. I won’t be buying Absolute ever again. I won’t let hubby buy it either. That’s extremely offensive.

The U.S. should trade Vermont, Massachusetts and a state to be named later to Canada in exchange for Alberta. :-)
To: JerseyanExile
Two Progressive, two (mostly) Conservative, and two toss-ups. That’s a much better deal than the current arrangement.
Same applies to a number of other states. Ohio (my state) should be three, PA should be at least two (probably three), NY should be two, and on and on.

There can be no effective state boundary enforcement in the street grid which ties together Los Angeles and Orange Counties. A boundary would have to be located elsewhere.
