First of all, let me say that I have been a lurker on FR since 2000. My wife (The Bat Lady) has been registered and a poster since the same time. I generally use FR as a news source and in years past as an info source for FR organized protests/demonstrations. I dont generally comment on articles because I mostly agree and dont need to preach to the choir. However one article fired me up and I finally register in August 2013.
That being said, I recently commented on an article regarding Steve Stockman running against John Cornyn. Knowing a lot about Texas politics I said Stockman was not a viable candidate. OMG! You would have thought I said I pissed on Reagans grave. I was called a troll, a Cornyn plant, a GOP-e (if my friends had heard that they would be laughing their asses off.) With all the name-calling I had to look to see if I was on FR or DU. Conservatives pride themselves on the quality of their debate versus liberal knee-jerk name-calling. I guess some here on FR cant raise themselves above that level.
Sticks and Stones! But more disturbing to me is the rise what I like to call the FR-e. Those are the posters that think that because they have been on FR for a long time that they are some kind of royalty and that newcomer comments and insights have no validity if they do not parrot their particular perception. I was called a noob prattling"
(prat·tle talk idly or childishly: to talk in a silly, idle, or childish way silly, idle, or childish talk)
Just because someone has recently discovered FR or recently joined after lurking they prattle? Oops, my bad, I guess they dont prattle if they agree with the pompous long-term freeper. Maybe we could cut back on the fundraisers if we encouraged new members rather than drive them off or turned them off with vitriolic discourse and vicious name-calling
(vit·ri·ol·ic adjective - filled with the intention or desire to do evil.)
If you havent looked at the Home page (click Free republic at the top left of the browse page) I invite you to look again: Jim Robinson states: Believing that the best defense is a strong offense, we (myself and those whom I'm trying to attract to FR) support...
Jim is trying to attract people to FR. How does denigrating a new reader attract them to FR? Being a victim of a verbal knock-out game by a supercilious FR-e certainly does not encourage a "newbie" to participate or even hang around
(su·per·cil·i·ous adjective 1. behaving or looking as though one thinks one is superior to others.)
Certainly all long time members dont fit this category but those who do know who you are (or maybe you dont) and so do we.
Protest Warrior comes to mind,,,
Shhh... I knew that but don't let anyone else know ;-) (But humble might want to sign himself up on blogspot just to keep someone else from doing so and then start messing with us from the Humble Blog.. ;-)
We disbanded the HOT chapter but it was a great bunch. And we FReeped the left in Austin many times.
So I would like to come HERE at FR for the grown-up, well-mannered, but still ardent, focused, and fired up crowd?
I wish we could do the research and get together with the strongest candidate but I'm ALL FOR voting for all other candidates and leave Cornyn in the dust.
Oh ,
secret Handshake!
you’re gonna Like That!
I need a smoke,
About the only thing you left out was how to install Linux on a Mac..
That ought to do it.

He’s still a douchebag. Who the Eff appointed him the Posting Police Captain?
How ya been my brother from another mother?
The circular firing squads are the most fun to watch. Or the threads where the sole objective is to see who can come up with the most derogatory term for RINOs.
Close.
“What else do we need to make this thread complete?”
Wait for it.
A woman ransacked her husband’s office, hit him in the face with a vase and threw a set of keys at his head because he found religion and wanted her to stop drinking, sheriff’s deputies say.
The 41-year-old woman is charged with misdemeanor domestic battery.
Her husband said she erupted at their insurance business, “creating a verbal scene in front of employees before ransacking the office,” according to her arrest report.
He said she hit him with a red vase, breaking his glasses. Then, when he asked her to leave and give him her keys to the business, she threw them at him, an employee said.
A deputy decided she was intoxicated after he went to her home, smelled her breath and interviewed her. She said her husband had “found religion” and was “acting the man” because he didn’t like her drinking.
When asked how he got the injuries on his head, she said, “I don’t understand what you’re saying” over and over again, a deputy wrote. Then she was arrested.
Circle Flies
A cowboy from Texas attends a social function where Barack Obama is trying to gather more support for his Health Plan. Once he discovers the cowboy is from President Bushs home area, he starts to belittle him by talking in a southern drawl and single syllable words.
As he was doing that, he kept swatting at some flies that were buzzing around his head. The cowboy says, “Y’all havin’ some problem with them circle flies?”
Obama stopped talking and said, “Well, yes, if that’s what they’re called, but I’ve never heard of circle flies.”
“Well Sir,” the cowboy replies, “circle flies hang around ranches. They’re called circle flies because they’re almost always found circling around the back end of a horse.”
“Oh,” Obama replies as he goes back to rambling. But, a moment later he stops and bluntly asks, “Are you calling me a horse’s ass?”
“No, Sir,” the cowboy replies, “I have too much respect
for the citizens of this country to call their President a horse’s ass.”
“That’s a good thing,” Obama responds and begins rambling on once more.
After a long pause, the cowboy, in his best Texas drawl says, “Hard to fool them flies, though.”
Noob. :D

I think we’re done now.

Whoa. Slow down there, Irish.
Let's look at what America got from the 'shutdown'.
We saw that the CINC would spend more money keeping Honor Flight Veterans from accessing an open air memorial than it normally cost to just leave it open.
We saw that he would have people unable to pull over and view or photograph such vistas as the Badlands in South Dakota or Mount Rushmore from the roadside (how much did deploying and gathering those road cones cost?)?
We saw how childish, churlish, and petty this administration is when it did not get it's way, much in the manner of a spoiled brat.
What's more, it was on view for any and all to see.
Intimidation? Hissy fit? You decide, but the recent photos of the 'selfie' and FLOTUS's reactions/expressions indicate further that we are not dealing with adults, here.
I want America to realize what a mistake it made putting the Kenyan (Indonesian?) in charge, I want that screwup to be carved into our national memory so it doesn't happen again (at least not for a long time).
While, not unlike the 17 other shutdowns of the past few decades, the Federal Employees still got paid, little got done (which sometimes is a bonus), etc., and eventually everything spooled back up to whatever passes normally for efficiency with no clear legislative victory, the lack of legislative progress isn't Cruz's fault--at least he tried. He got face time with the press, and did a great job of articulating some of the failures of the Democrat-dominated Senate, and Barry O as well, when the interview didn't end up on the cutting room floor.
Man, that was fun! I had a lot of PM's egging me on, too.
You and I joined the same day.
He’ll need it. Texas politics generally doesn’t seem to be a low-rent undertaking.
All of it cribbed right here at FR.
SO glad I wasn’t drinking any beverage reading that. I do however have to go pee now. That is the best laugh this month.
