I was really looking forward to watching this—but I found it a big disappointment, maybe because I have watched the original one so many times.
I didn’t think the soprano could sing nearly as beautifully as Julie Andrews—and the original was actually filmed on location in the Alps.
> This story lacks diversity and is not inclusive. Showing a

Not to mention the strong undertones of resistance to big government! Didn’t they know that the dear leader knew what was best for them?
Der Fuehrer was giving Captain von Trapp the opportunity to die a glorious death for the Fatherland in a German U-boat!
What a cowardly ingrate to run away from such a glorious destiny!
(hoping I dont need the /sarc tag, but just in case ...)
We watched and thought it was outstanding. I didn’t notice any subtext of liberal lecturing, although the presense of a black nun (in 1940 Austria?) was rather jarring, although she gave a fine performance. It followed the stage play more closely than the movie and therefore had several songs in it that were not in the movie. Those kids were perfect in their roles. This is proof that TV really can do a good job.
Performed at Grumman Studios and one building down from where I was last evening. So close to Carrie Underwood yet so far...
Did they do “Spring time for Hitler”?
My wife and I thought that the orchastra drowned out the vocals. Would have thought that sort of thing would have been worked out in rehearsals and sound checks.
I didn’t know it was on
Is this Julia Anderew movie if so Damn I miss it
Sound of Music was a surprise ratings hit.
Duck Dynasty was a surprise.
The Bible mini series was a surprise.
So many “surprises” that keep repeating themselves over and over.
Wow it was live.Maybe it will be On Demand. My husband had control of the remote and he caught up with The Black List.:)
I watched the first 10 minutes and recorded the rest..
1st impression, nope... Julie Andrews is a very high bar to reach... that movie was simply breathtaking ( yeah sounds gay, I know , what the hell, so sue me -— how bout them Redskins !! )
anyway, I’m encouraged by the whole idea of remaking wholesome american entertainment.
I have been to Salzburg, Austria and the von Trapp house there. The distance from Salzburg to Switzerland is over 200 miles by road, if you don’t cross the ‘border’ into Germany. That is the only portion of the story that has never been sensable to me. Actually the family departed by train from Salzburg to Italy.
and take God out of it.
It wasn’t a remake of the movie..it was a live version of the Broadway Show. It is timeless.
You have to look at the production similar to a Broadway show sans audience. The challenge was all the camera shots they had to work out and execute live.
Since I have zero artistic talent, I probably should not criticize anyone who does.........(but if I don’t care for something, I turn it off.)
I’m not saying this was a bad performance, and of course since it was a stage show that was filmed live, this is like comparing apples and oranges.
My comment simply meant that of the 2, I loved the movie with Julie Andrews—this one did not appeal to me so much.
But, hey—that’s why my TV comes equipped with an off button—right?
It is a great movie, for sure. But it is a sad commentary on our culture that little of even nearly equal value has been produced in the almost 50 years since it has been made.
I thought it was very good. Carrie Underwood's musical performances were outstanding. Her acting skills leave something to be diseired but as a noviuce actor she did very well. Thesupporting cast was great and the actress who played the Mother Superior was amazing!
I'm very glad we watched it.
Shocked they didnt go PC and cast Beyonce in the main role instead of Carrie.
Audra McDonald played Mother Abbess
