Comet ISON's Full Perihelion Pass :NASA
Comet ISON, which began its journey from the Oort Cloud some 3 million years ago, made its closest approach to the sun on Nov. 28, 2013. The comet was visible in instruments on NASA's Solar Terrestrial Relations Observatory, or STEREO, and the joint European Space Agency/NASA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory, or SOHO, via images called coronagraphs. Coronagraphs block out the sun and a considerable distance around it, in order to better observe the dim structures in the sun's atmosphere, the corona. As such, there was a period of several hours when the comet was obscured in these images, blocked from view along with the sun. During this period of time, NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory could not see the comet, leading many scientists to surmise that the comet had disintegrated completely. However, something did reappear in SOHO and STEREO coronagraphs some time later -- though it was significantly less bright. Whether that spot of light was merely a cloud of dust that once was a comet, or if it still had a nucleus -- a small ball of its original, icy material -- intact, is still unclear. It seems likely that as of Dec. 1, there was no nucleus left. By monitoring its changes in brightness over time, scientists can estimate whether there's a nucleus or not, but our best chance at knowing for sure will be if the Hubble Space Telescope makes observations later in December 2013.
And what about your magic ice?
You seemed to get your thong in a wringer attempting to suggest here that I was putting words in your mouth. You seem to be quite at ease in such activity yourself. Magic ice is your term. Unless you are postulating that comets have a solid core (which your comments really would tend to indicate), general belief on the composition of cometary core structure is that it is a bunch of rocks and ices of some form. You will find a reference to core ices in the bold above from NASA's comments. Or if you prefer, you may desire to enlighten yourself by reading MORPHOLOGICAL STRUCTURE AND CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF COMETARY NUCLEI AND DUST. It's really short (only 12 pages, and a two page bibliography in case you desire further study.) But then, you seem to indicate that you believe that NASA lied or something. Here is proof to bolster your apparent belief.

And good old Roche?
What about him? Édouard Roche died back in the 1880's. His discovery explains things like most of Saturn's rings. If you are diving toward a black hole you find a really special Roche radius . We call it an event horizon. People who are not trying to impress by tossing out stuff that they may or may not know anything about simply refer to it as tidal effect. And a small body of lesser mass approaching a gravitational sink such as the Sun would most certainly be altered by tidal effect to the point of destruction. But just where did you invent this:three mile nucleus spread out 5 million miles?
You are back to faith statements that the sun, zetans, thetans, or Nibiruites imparted a sizeable amount of energy to the system in an unseen and off-axis manner so as to allow for your faith in the ability to violate laws of conservation of momentum (and energy for that matter).
From what I found this cometary 'system' is on a trajectory that is inclined some 60 degrees from the elliptic (that info was from that great source of all things Wikipedia and as such could be wrong, but it's the value I found. Again, your mileage could vary.) Be aware that I am not disputing that the original core had a diameter of 5 km. Nor am I disputing the fact that tidal effects would have caused the collection of rocks to come unglued. And considerably reduced in size. And some of those chunks just might have been stressed into dust that should be creating a visible dust tail (but not your invisible dust.) Just how big the remaining rocks are - I don't know but it seems that there are those, especially those with a YouTube channel that seem to imply that they have that knowledge..
I am calling to the bar your seeming assertion that his comet possessed a solid core (which b.t.w. would have by definition made it an asteroid instead of a bunch of icebound rocks, er, comet) and your seemingly obsessive belief that in spite of being reminded of the conservation laws, your model somehow develops the ability to alter its trajectory by 60 degrees so that it will be in the same plane as earth's orbit so that we can all die. That's a rather sizeable energy input above gravitational slingshoting that has no source in your model. No matter what tidal forces produced in Ison, the remains, er maybe cremains, would still be traveling at an inclination of a nominal 60 degrees to the elliptic.
We're back to the howitzer 9 miles away from you firing a projectile in your general 'direction' but at an angle such that it would pass 4 miles over your head. It would take a sizeable input of energy to alter the trajectory of that projectile so that it was buzzing along parallel to the ground in a manner as to hit you. Thus, in my opinion, you are espousing a Chicken Little Sky Is Falling scenario. Again, your mileage may vary and as you say, we'll know soon enough.
Oh, and I'll gladly accept your generous offer for a happy meal. I'll give the toy to my grand-kids. I'll even have them write you a 'thank you' card.
