FULL TITLE: 'I felt I was on trial for murdering the Beatles': Yoko says fans wrongly convicted her for 40 years
Yoko Ono has told how being blamed for The Beatles split made her feel like she was on trial for murder.
She said: It feels like I was accused of something that I didnt do, which was breaking up The Beatles. Its like youre accused of murder and youre in prison and you cant get out.
Since the Fab Four broke up in 1970, Miss Ono has been blamed by many fans for their demise because she was in a relationship with John Lennon.
The couple moved to New York a year later so they could work more closely on the burgeoning peace movement. Lennon was shot dead in 1981.
In an interview with a US magazine, Ono reflected on the years since the band broke and added the allegation left her feeling that she wasnt valued by people and that the only way to cope was to take the hatred directed at her and turn it around into love.

The Beatles broke up because they were 4 greedy a**hats trying to work together. They didn’t care about each other, only the fame and money they made, therefore they broke up. The same reason they trashed Pete Best without a second thought and took on Ringo.
Well there was the “Pete Best is the most handsome one” aspect to his getting fired too.
Oh, yeah, the fact that many girls shouted “Pete is the Best beatle” probably didn’t help him keep his spot. You notice Ringo is even uglier than the other 3.

Yokos singing = a cat getting its tail smashed by a rocking chair!
Yoko’s singing more like a cat getting hit by a beer truck...
Moreso I think it was John and his fascination with her and her experimental art was what broke the Beatles up. She is nutty as a fruitcake but I can’t help thinking they really loved each other as nauseating as it was to the rest of us.
George is my favorite Beatle even though who was sucked in by the Swami’s I always felt like he was the most genuine and tried to be authentic to his beliefs - I also liked that he was mad about gardening and would be out in the middle of the night looking at his garden and working on it in the moonlight - I know someone like that Mitch5501.

The Rolling Stones were hitting their stride when the Beatles disbanded. Think: "Let It Bleed", "Sticky Fingers" et al. The Stones had more rock n roll SOUL in just one song (Honky Tonk Woman) than the entire Beatles catalog. I have never understood the fascination with them. From "I want to hold your hand" to "Sgt. Peppers" (although it was interesting to listen to, but had NO real soul), they were just an accomplished pop band.
To this day, check out any bar band or jukebox and see how many Stones songs are played versus Beatles. Also, arguably the greatest intro to a rock song is "Gimme Shelter". Plus, how many movies have you seen that have Stones in the background versus Beatles? As recent as "Flight" with Denzel Washington had Stones songs in it, not to mention the many Scorsese movies.
The Beatles were over. They did their thing and had nothing left because their music wasn't truly built on rhythm & blues, as they claimed. The Stones were from the very first album and progressed from there. I could name numerous early Stones songs that were blues/rock versus Beatles early Partridge Family crap.
Can you stand there (or sit there) as a card carrying baby Boomer and tell me “No, you DID NOT like the album RAM with Uncle Albert”, What about the instrumental introduction to “Band On The Run” listen to it again, closely, then tell us what you meant to say. By the way, I’m joking with you. I happened to like many of his solo pieces, not all. I understand many of his songs then were way too sugary and sweet for extended consumption. I know. Exhibit A. Silly Love Songs”, Ebony and Ivory ;shamelessly saccharine!
I think Yoko enjoys her notoriety, the power it still gives her over people of a certain age. Maybe she has another Art Showing like last year, when she had mounds of dirt available for your viewing pleasure, for a nominal fee of course.
That makes it sound like she thinks she is finally forgiven. What planet is she from?!
The Beatles’ best work blows away anything the Stones ever did . I’m talking about Revolver , Rubber Soul , Sgt. Peppers era . Very accomplished pop band . Even gave the Stones their first top 20 hit , I Wanna Be Your Man . :-)
I think as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, good music is in the ear of the listener. So I can’t really argue against your preference of the Stones over the Beatles.
Having said that, I will say I agree with sushi man when he says, “The Beatles best work blows away anything the Stones ever did.”
I think the Kinks had better songs than the Rolling Stones.
But, what I want to ask you, as an obvious Stones fan, is about what I think is their best song period — when they were doing country-fried songs.
Do you think Gram Parsons was a big influence on that? The vocals on Wild Horses in some parts sounds like Jagger is imitating a Burrito song.
I wonder if Parsons even essentially wrote or created the songs while he was living with Richards, doing heroin together and jamming.
My life has been an unending series of unrelated set backs and disappointments since attending The Beatles concert in Memphis when I was only 12.
Yoko was J.L.’s mother and lover. Remember his mum left him off with his aunt.
I am still in therapy. Dr. Robert?
What do Yoko Ono and Ethiopians have in common?
They both live off dead Beatles.
You should be on trial for your horrible voice.
Yoko = Tiresome
I recall also seeing John and Yoko playing with Chuck berry...and in the course of the song, yoko shrieks and Berrys eyes widen as to say WTF LOL
Absolutely. Irrelevant no talent tedious bimbo

A big Beatles fan here and did not know that about “Bird”.
I assume the bird was Marianne Faithful who certainly could sing!
As an aside, I have CDRs of all of their EMI albums made direct from the studio master tapes along with some unreleased studio demos. Perhaps my fav “gift: is the 25 year remastering of “Pepper” that came direct from Geoff Emerick when he was in NYC for the remastering. Alas, it was never released.
