I gunsmith for a living. Really don’t have a dog in this hunt. I do have long experience in their mechanical operations and an intimate understanding of their propensity towards malfunction.
My experiences have prompted me, when asked, to recommend the Remington 700. Hands down the most dependable. Without a doubt has the most after market upgrade and conversion parts. Support from the company is 2nd to none.
Cartridge suggestions: .243, .308, .270 or .30-06.

I would not let you even clean one of my rifles let alone work on one. Remington bolt guns worst in mechanical malfunction, hang firers, deaths and major injury's of any weapon made in America. Personally saw over 10% failure on a new shipment of M-40 to the USMC sniper school. All were pulled off the line and sent back to Remington. You will notice that the AR-10 and model 70 Win. are replacing the M-40 for mid range out to 800 meters. Out to 1600 meters the .338 Lapua Mag. I will not allow anyone to hunt with us that has a Remington bolt rifle.
