The monastery was built on a shelf of a gorge by the princes of the junior Bagratuni branch, Kyurikids in 1171. The monastery was later acquired by the Zakarids and converted into a Chalcedonian monastery.

And little lambsie divey.

But seriously, there's all that history out there! The Barnes and Noble catalog used to sell a two-volume set, Early Medieval Serbia and Late Medieval Serbia. I'm sure there were characters as grand as Churchill or Miltiades or Benito Juarez, but I'll probably never know, because they stopped sending me the catalog many moves ago.
