Good Morning! I'm wishing to open up a new email account and depart Gmail, basically because of Google policies.
Does anyone know of a secure, FREE, email service?
Many thanks in advance.
Secure from the NSA?
none exists.
Secure as opposed to Google and Gmail who store all your info! And bombard you with advertising windows based on online actions.
Bombarded? Really? The ads are small and do not have the flashing sirens like other sites. To be honest, the ads are some of the least offensive I find anywhere.
One could set up a server...
Then you could host your e-mail
Sort of like Freepmail
Of course, this does not encrypt the other side...
Check out Outlook.com
When Yahoo changed their format, my daughter recommended Outlook.com. I switched and have been happy with it. I don’t know what you mean by “secure,” but picking a good password is important. I find the redemtion code from an iTunes card works well. Just don’t lose the card.
I think you left out the sarc tag.
HotMail and Outlook / Outlook Express are known to be some of the most-hacked sites in existence. Even Yahoo would be a better suggestion.
“Fastmail.fm” It’s not free, but bloody good for the price.
Setting up your own server could prevent the Google issue you are concerned about - advertising.
One FReeper has commented to you that Google ads are the least offensive advertising if you make the proper settings to keep spam out of the channel. But even Google has to get some money from somewhere to cover their cost of "free" e-mail by you. Advertising is how they make that $.
I have no idea how secure it is but I’ve used outlook express since time began.
Hold on just a minute, jsh.
Hey! NSA! Any suggestions?
[They will be responding momentarily — provided their computer doesn’t crash.]
Try GMX, Fastmail or Hushmail.
Glenn Beck is coming out with e-mail for The Blaze subscribers. E-mails will end with @1791.com and it is specifically designed to compete with the snooping of Gmail.

I know there are greatly varying Freeper opinions on Beck though.
Lavabit ....oh, wait....nevermind.

The free service only has 10mb of free storage, so you can’t store piles of old email like you can on Gmail.
Among others I’ve used www.mail.com for a long time.
It has ads—but no leftist tinge that I know of.
