They might be using light loads. I typically use 95gr. JHP and ball in my pistol.
.380 is a good round for home/self defense.
“That way you can leave all of your preparation supplies to those who are left behind.”
Like LaHaye & Jenkins...
“But when an AK finally DOES break (and they do), or you run out of ammo, you won’t find spares or reloads on the bodies of the “zombies”, either.”
But you will find the AR-15 and ammo with each of the ‘zombies’ you kill, or you find killed...we are talking ‘zombies’ as being the armed opposition of course...and they likely will not be US military...
“(i) Taurus Judge with multiple quik-loads of 45 ACP and 0.410...”
45 ACP ain’t gonna work in your Judge, my FRiend...
“Dont worry about the 30-06, the SKS will do what you want.”
The AK/SKS will not do what a Savage 110 in 30-06 will do...the AK/SKS has no where near the range of the scoped Savage...Put a 7.62x39 cartridge in one had, a 30-06 in the other...you will immediately see the difference in effectiveness over distance.
“Ill let other folks carry guns around and try to delay physical death for a few more miserable years.”
There is nothing miserable about life...it has to do with how you choose to live it. With God, all things possible. That includes Life. Life came from God. Everything God created he called Good! and then, Very Good! Why do you find a few more years of life ‘miserable’?
I actually get that. But MrB is right that for my purposes, the SKS is fine. I could get a lot more range (and probably accuracy) with the 30-06 and I might want to get one, but it’s above and beyond my “current” purposes.
That said, I saw a great 30-06 with scope and plastic stock for $325 yesterday.
Rock River Arms LAR-15 (Mine)
Remington 870 Express 12ga w/Tube Extension (Mine)
Generic .22 Revolver (Youngest Son)
HnK USP 9mm w/high capacity magazines (Youngest Son)
HnK USP 45 w/high capacity Magazines (Mine)
Beretta 92m (Oldest Son's)
Glock 17 Gen3 (Wife's)
Remington .308 (Mine.)
The family that shoots together, SURVIVES together.
Two or three quick (and nicely quiet) taps with a .22 is gonna make most critters rethink their approach.
“I lost all of my guns in a boating accident in the Gulf of Mexico.”
Ah, but they must be the ones I saw found on the video’s of the BP disaster down there...ATF scooped ‘em up and is looking for the owner... :)
“My choices:
Kel-Tel P-32 for pocket carry.
Glock 26 for inside the waist band or on a belt.
Remington 22lr rifle for getting dinner.
Ruger SP-101 .357 revolver on a belt for stopping power.
Ruger SR-556 AR-15 for killing zombies (very clean shooting due to piston-driven operating system).”
Although I like your list, I’m suprised that you didn’t include a Rem 870/Moss 500 12 g.
The Ruger SP 101 is my carry of choice now that NY limits my XD9 to eight rounds. I carry .357 in a 2.25” snubbie. The hand rattle is worse than the kick, but after lots of range time, I can consistently hold the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th shots on target.
My home defense weapons may not get the same respect as the ARs get, but I am very confident in my ability to effectively use what I have: Rem 870 12 g; Marlin 1894c .357; Marlin 336 .30-30; and Marlin 1895 .45-70. I carry a Ruger SP 101 2.35” .357 and have a Springfield XD9 3” subcompact and XD9 4” service for extra protection.
Part of my reasoning for telling you that the SKS would do all you want was your description of your experience and range time.
Sure, a person can make longer range shots with the 30-06,
but are YOU that person? I’m not. I don’t practice enough.
So, I’ll take the shorter shots with the “already have” SKS.
Yes. We are on the same page.
Yer right! Typing ahead of my thoughts...
Zombies are as zombies do, and fortunately most of them aren’t bulletproof. But you are much more optimistic than I am.

“That said, for practicality, cost, etc. I think one of the little kel-tek 9mms might be a good choice.”
I bought a brand new Kel-tec PF9. The third round went ‘click’ , fourth round went ‘click’, next couple went bang, but I can’t trust it. Tomorrow a Para Ordnance 1911 .45 will take its place.
Dang! Just realized I posted to a two year old thread. I hate when that happens! (And it does happen.)
