People forget, Crawford also won a Best Actor Oscar for his role as a Huey Long-type character in "All The King's Men."

Broderick Crawford held me when I was a baby. I don’t remember it but my dad bragged about it a lot. He was a big fan.

I always wondered about the backstory on how an actor goes from such a pinnacle as an Oscar win to syndicated TV in such a short time.
Also, as a personal note, 10/4 is my dad’s birthday and he would have been 94.

My brother and I always threw our neckties over our shoulder to imitate Crawford. His tie was always blowing in the wind over his shoulder.

Just saw Mr. Crawford in an episode of BANACEK recently and he was a delight. The best part of the show was hearing him call Banacek “Banana-check”.
I’m also a big fan of Lon Chaney, Jr., and I’ve read/heard over the years that Lon and Brod loved to really mix it up from time to time. They were both old school brawlers, and enjoyed the bottle.

Highway Patrol was one of my favorite shows as a kid. I now like to watch reruns on Me TV (?). Now when I watch the shows I laugh at Broderick’s machine-gun talking style. Also, whenever a crime was committed and the crooks finally located in that tiny state of California, Broderick was there in about five minutes to get the crook. Also laughed that he never described the make of an auto .....”a tan sedan.”
