Well, here's my story. I logged on and immediately got the "Please Wait" page. I waited 45 minutes before giving up. But, during that time, I clicked on the chat room option to get a live human being and ask a question. Here is the question I asked: "Since there is such a long wait, here, can I buy health insurance directly through the insurance company, instead?" The man responded with "I don't know." . . . Really?! And these are the people to whom I am supposed to turn over my most sensitive and personal information?

And oh, yeah, the chat room window wait was only 13 minutes.

“The man responded with “I don’t know.”

Sounds normal to me when calling a govt hotline.

Don’t you have to give them your SSN and other personal info before you can even get a quote?

I logged on to the site, picked my state and got this.

I waited about 20 minutes with nothing further.

I don't need to enroll, just looking to see what would happen.

I refuse to give them my info to attempt to enroll. Sorry. I’m no help.

yes I did. Well.. No I didn’t. Seems the state of Minnesota decided their web site should only be open from 6 am to 10 pm Monday to Friday. It’s 10:53 PM.

idiots.

Not that I would have given them my SSN or other info like that. My state is known to just email that information out at random.

We logged onto covered California. Got the rates for the different programs. I think the gold plan was around $2200 /mo for premiun Blue Sheild and $2400 Health Net PPOs with no deductible for a family of 5. We don’t qualify for anything back from the govt.

We also got onto ehealth and got information.

We did not sign up for it because we don’t need it right now. My husband had prostate cancer 2 years ago at 50 years old. He was laid off and then started working for a start up. We get insurance, but no Cobra. The start up isn’t going anywhere, so He’s thinking of going to do some contract work, but we’ll need to purchase insurance. He’s also looking for another regular job.

I will say it’s nice that we can actually get insurance, but it’s crazy expensive. We’re pretty well to do, and I can’t imagine other’s that are not as well off spending this much on health nsurance.

However, we are the poster children for being thankful we’ve had insurance. We keep on getting hit with health issues that are rare. Besides my husband’s cancer, my identical twin daughter almost died of a repiratory illness when they were 6 weeks old and 1 has a bran injury. One of the twins who is now 16 was diagnosed with a very rare movement disorder, dystonia. We are not sure what is going on with the dystonia. Right now, it just causes writers cramp and she can’t use her left hand. It could progress to other parts of her body. If it does progress, one option is deep brain stimulation.

My husbands cancer was also stage 3. So far he’s been cancer free since sugery, but it would be bad if the cancer comes back.

So we are a weird family, and it’s been great that we have had insurance.

I have employer insurance but checked out “covered california.” It was about $2000/mo. for platinum with no deductible or $1200/mo. for bronze with $10,000 deductible. Between that and income taxes I would be saying sayonara to 50% of my income. Real affordable. Blatant transfer of wealth. Why bust my butt???

I had already been logging onto the state exchange website for the last month to price plans.

But since they sent me a paper application I will use that instead of the online app when I actually apply.

It’s true someone could make transcription mistakes from the paper form but they do scan it when it comes in so entries could always be verified later. With the online stuff the data could be altered at any time.

On September 26 I got on live chat and asked if the smoking penalty applied to tobacco only. Amber (after about 10 minutes) responded that she didn’t have access to that information and to call back on Oct 1.
Too bad, cause I also wanted to ask if a person lied about smoking tobacco to avoid paying, which spy techniques they were going to use to catch them?
