Did you try to log on to the government health care exchange? Did you get through successfully? What did you find out? What were the premiums? Did you sign up? Was it easy? Was it a nightmare? Tell your story here . . .
My wife and I are kind of in a special situation for about two years. I will be retired and under medicare buying a supplement policy of some sort. She will be retired with me but too young for medicare. We will be comfortably retired but having income at about 23% of what we had with us both working at real fine jobs. We will get nailed and sucked dry by this deal for that two year period.
We will be forced to risk our savings by buying the minimal plan and then loosing a third of our lifetime savings if a major medical event occurs to her and have to live the next 15 to 30 years with much less income and emergency money.
I honestly think she will just say she prefers to die if ill.
If she can be classified as disabled, she can get medicare along with the disability payment from SS.
What?
I thought this was supposed to be the AFFORDABLE Care Act!
I have employer insurance but checked out “covered california.” It was about $2000/mo. for platinum with no deductible or $1200/mo. for bronze with $10,000 deductible. Between that and income taxes I would be saying sayonara to 50% of my income. Real affordable. Blatant transfer of wealth. Why bust my butt???
lmao....my cat still will not talk to mama
I had already been logging onto the state exchange website for the last month to price plans.
But since they sent me a paper application I will use that instead of the online app when I actually apply.
It’s true someone could make transcription mistakes from the paper form but they do scan it when it comes in so entries could always be verified later. With the online stuff the data could be altered at any time.
You can get some short-term insurance for about a year.
True Story. Nope
I need over two years and the market prices for private will float to pool levels due to what the market will bear. Who wants to give cheap coverage when Siebelious calls the shots.
It is my understanding to get Medicare when you are not 65 and disabled, you need to be collecting SS disability for 2 years in order to qualify. To get SS disability may take years.
I’m convinced 0bamacare is just a sneaky way to either bankrupt or get rid of all of us old farts.
She has no major illness or disability. She does however break bones and tear joints regularly and I think her gastro system will become debilitating.
Disabled, not probably attainable without fraudulent claims as I see it now and there are too many leeches already.
Of course they want us gone. We have votes, guns and bibles.
You should qualify for the subsidy.
I have. And 2 others. They vary wildly.
Nope. Income too high for just two people.
You’d think they would at least be in the general ballpark.
There are bronze, silver, gold and platinum plans, that should all have roughly similar coverage.
Crazy! Instead of the Affordable Care Act it should be called the Crazy Expensive Health Insurance For Desperate Wealthy People with Pre-existing Conditions Act
Medicare kicks in two years after the Application Date, not the Approval Date.
If it takes a year to get approved for Disability, Medicare Eligibility will be effective one year later.
