... there has been discussion as to how a three-way tie would be determined for the last clubs in: ...
Cleveland would host Tampa Bay to determine one of the wild cards on Monday; the loser of that game would then play at Texas on Tuesday to determine the second wild card.
The two winners would be re-seeded for the wild card game on Wednesday based on season series. Therefore, the Rangers would host the Rays after going 4-3 against them this season, and would be at Cleveland after going 1-5 against them (and Cleveland would be at Tampa Bay).
If two teams tie for the second wild card, home-field would be determined by the season series and (game) played on Monday. Texas would host Tampa Bay, and be at Cleveland should that scenario unfold. (Cleveland would be at Tampa Bay.) The winner would then travel to the No. 1 wild card destination for a game Wednesday.

Your comment was posted before last night's Atlanta game. As of now St. Louis is at, 96W-65L. Atlanta is at, 95W-66L, having lost to the Phillies last night. Two games left to play for both teams.
Right now, St. Louis is one full game ahead of Atlanta, for HFA. Very important as Atlanta is actually below .500 in "away" games.
Two games left to play for both teams.
My mistake - One game left. If Atlanta wins and St. Louis loses, best Atlanta has is a tie.
They should do like in soccer, on the last day of the season, all the games start at the same time.
Tampa scores 6 in the first.....looks like the Rangers will have to win or go home.
I predict that at the end of the day:
1. Rays will have lost, making the CLE game meaningless (CLE clinches #5 seed with that loss)
2. CLE will win 12-3
3. Tito will then try to explain why Jimenez threw 95 pitches in a meaningless, one-sided game.
4. Cleveland will lose WED due to poor starting pitching.
Pirates say A r r r r g g h !
No hitter with a walk off wild pitch on the last day of the regular season!? How many no hitters have ended with a walk off win?
I saw that; you couldn’t script that.
IDK if there have been any other no hitters that have ended with a walk off win.
Not the way I’d want the Tigers to go into the post-season.
No kidding, right? Not a good sign.
Tampa Wins, they will see more baseball.
Rangers take the lead against the Angels.
Cleveland appears to be about ready to wrap up their WC spot.
And CLE punches their card to the AL Wild Card game.
Rangers three outs away from hosting the Rays.
Intense times for Rangers fans...don’t they need to close this one out, beat the Rays, then the Indians; to get to Boston?
It’s looking like one more in Arlington tomorrow...
Yep, it means ultimately to get to the ALDS, they needed to win 9 games in a row.
And CLE will have had to win 11 in a row just to get there.
Texas-Tampa in the Post-Season, it’s becoming an annual ritual, it seems.
That’s an amazing performance by BOTH teams to get this far...of course; Rangers only have themselves to blame for being in this situation in the first place.
We’ll see you at the Ballpark tomorrow night!
Texas’ combined record against the Astros and Angels.....32-6.
That’s why they are where they are.
