... there has been discussion as to how a three-way tie would be determined for the last clubs in: ...
Cleveland would host Tampa Bay to determine one of the wild cards on Monday; the loser of that game would then play at Texas on Tuesday to determine the second wild card.
The two winners would be re-seeded for the wild card game on Wednesday based on season series. Therefore, the Rangers would host the Rays after going 4-3 against them this season, and would be at Cleveland after going 1-5 against them (and Cleveland would be at Tampa Bay).
If two teams tie for the second wild card, home-field would be determined by the season series and (game) played on Monday. Texas would host Tampa Bay, and be at Cleveland should that scenario unfold. (Cleveland would be at Tampa Bay.) The winner would then travel to the No. 1 wild card destination for a game Wednesday.

Tiger’s game starts in an hour.
They’ve tied the all time single season strike out record with 1,404 this season. 2 more regular season games to go will put them over the top easily.
Everyone needs to pull for me rangers just like my razorbacks. Totally unique wonderful teams that God loves!
Having Scherzer and Verlander on your staff will do that for you.
what Fox is saying right now is untrue
worse case scenario is Indians assured of a game 163”
no. worse case scenario is Indians assured of a game 164. Indians would have to lose SUN MON and TUES to be out.
Verlander has had a horrible year but appears to be getting hot just in the nick of time. 10 Ks in the first 3 and a half innings of his last outing.
Hope all these extra games are evening (cause I want to watch), but by all rights they should be day games, real baseball style.
Glad the Braves don’t have to worry about the play in game this year. That little trash throwing infield fly debacle last year was rather embarrassing for a city that normally looks down on other places for doing just that sort of thing.
I’ve been waiting my whole adult life for a Pirate playoff game. Last time I wasn’t legally allowed to drink a beer ... Legally ... :-). That one didn’t end very well either.
I don’t know if I can handle the tomahawk chop in Dolby 7.1 Surround if things unfold that way. :-)
Sorry pardner, I am a Tribe fan.
A lot more complicated than in the olden days (before 1962) when there were 8 teams in each league and the only suspense was finding out which NL team would face the Yankees in the World Series.
And that chop thing ?
Irritating in the absolute extremis .. comes to that, it'll be a no audio viewing experience .. they may have a good team, but deserve to be severely trounced simply for that obnoxious noise.
GO BUCS ! !
and cheers .. but better luck with it this time .. lol

“Is Cueto really pitching on SUN, or is he a scratch?”
Cueto is scratched for Sunday. Game means nothing

Hell yes! I never liked watching a Florida State football game because of that obnoxious sound and the chopping motion! ....Oh..wait. I guess I was thinking about the wrong sport. ........Which baseball team’s fans do that stupid stuff? Braves? Indians? Bucs? (never happened when Rangers played there) Pirates? ...Haven’t seen it in baseball.
Right now, Cleveland has a one-game lead on Tampa Bay and Texas, but if those teams win Sunday and the Tribe loses, we’ll have a three-way tie for the two AL wildcards. The wild-card winner plays the Boston Red Sox, while the Detroit Tigers hook up with the Oakland Athletics.
Impy, there is a bit of chatter about the strategy of CLEVE skipping Jimenez on SUN and save him for the inevitable elimination game, likely on WED.
Since TB 1pm is an hour earlier than CLEVE 2pm gametime .. if TB is way behind ... Jimenez could get pulled early.
TEX 3pm also .. with a 2-hour advantage ... gotta wonder if they might do something different with Darvish if TB is way behind or has lost.
It takes some thought ... TEX is facing sure elimination on MON and if MON never happens (because they clinch on SUN) ... then they have Darvish for WED. On the other hand, they might be better using Darvish for the clincher on SUN to avoid facing Price on MON.
Cleve has a 97% of getting to the wildcard game (in theory), yet a 50% chance of being eliminated on that day (WED). They need Jimenez on WED.
Are you hoping for the chaos of a 3 way tie? I am.
I am hoping that the games are well-managed ...
On SUN, I can get the Indians game on the radio (maybe, day games are tough to get the signal) ... but other than that, we can only get GameBreaks on ESPn ???
“With as short a leash as Salazar has been on”
who gets the start on WED if Jimenez clinches it for them on SUN? or are you saying Kazmir on SAT in game 2 vs. Boston?
