Target marketing.
Like many words it has multiple meanings depending on usage.
Some uses are harmless and some are intended to insult or degrade.
Right. The Coke “You’re gay” cap will mean the winner is happy.
It was probably entered in during the software testing process for the cap printing and just never removed.
The children were so proud of him, they put him on their shoulders and paraded through the neighborhood. An example of hoist by one’s own retard.
I did a search after posting and it resulted from a promotion that randomly placed an english word with a french word. Retard pretty much means what it does in english but without the connotations.
This happened in Canada and it makes more sense because its a dual language country.
They understand everything you just said but just don’t care. They think its more fun to insult children and the parents of such children.
You read the article?! You researched the event?!!!
heretic, this is FR and thats just not done here.
:) happy Friday
Depends on how you pronounce it -
“to slow” is pronounced “rih TARD”
the insult is pronounced “RE tard”
And, if you’re “trilingual”, you say “that’s ritarted, sir”.
OK, so I won’t call the daughter a “retard”.
But the old man, he’s still a “pussy”!
FN crybabies...
Oh my goodness, this made me bust out laughing! Bravo!
It was a fluke- all the caps were bilingual, with a random-word generator. The French word that came up was “retard”, which means “late”.
Gone are the days of “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”
I wonder if these people are just trying to make some money, setting up a law suit?

LOL
It was a staffer for the mayor of Washington, DC:

And it's not an isolated occurrence, either:
Controversies about the word "niggardly"
In other news, the County of Los Angeles has banned the use of "master/slave" terminology by technology equipment vendors:
'Master' and 'slave' computer labels unacceptable, officials say
In that article:
The request -- which has some suppliers furious and others busy re-labeling components -- came after an unidentified worker spotted a videotape machine carrying devices labeled "master" and "slave" and filed a discrimination complaint with the county's Office of Affirmative Action Compliance.
