71 percent of the 2,500 black students in APS who took the Mathematics II exam in 2011, failed and only 1 percent, 25 students, passed with distinction (Pass Plus). By contrast, only 21 percent of white students failed with 79 percent passing and 23 percent of those passing with distinction.
In Fulton County, where 62 percent of black students failed the Mathematics II exam, 90 percent of the white students passed, 32 percent with distinction. The failure rates and achievement gaps throughout most of the school districts in the metro-Atlanta area are astonishing.
The consequence of this reality is that black students are excluded from much of the STEM conversation and are nearly entirely excluded from the higher level STEM education discourse. For the incoming 2013 freshman class of first time full time freshmen at Georgia Tech, for example, there were only 61 applicants from the entire Atlanta Public School system, nearly 2,500 seniors. Of those 61 applicants, 26 were admitted and 15 have enrolled.
Despite APS being 79 percent black students, only 28 percent, or 17 applicants, of the total applicants from APS were black. Of those 17 applicants, only 1 black freshman was admitted.

All too true. Before the Dade County Teachers Goonion realized I was communism deficient, I wrote courses for teachers and students.
One of my gifted students was black and in the profoundly gifted catagory. He attended the Dade County Pooblik Skrewl Collective’s top science school. He took a bus out to the school for the gifted along with the students going to a school for future criminals.
The future criminals were threatening to knife him for “acting white” because he was a top student at the MAST Academy as the Pooblik Skrewl Collective hive he attended was officially named.
I remember him asking me to let him borrow a small .22 revolver because he was seriously concerned. Refusing him was one of the more difficult decisions I have made because I knew the risk was real and his IQ was sufficient to make him a significant future creator of valuable ideas.

I agree, however, that intellect/IQ is not the reason for the low levels of involvement. It’s simply a matter of making bad choices.

Yeah, we can talk about it but the 'it' we are supposed to talk about is the result of poverty, thug culture, no dads, not enough good food, slavery, racism and multiple other things that are mostly BS. It matters not that this issue, the gap, the so called 'education gap' never seems to change.

In my college engineering program, there were black students. Several hailed from Nigeria and other African nations, while one notable one came from the Caribbean. Cannot recall an African-American, though one might have existed.
Fine (despite disagreements above), but IQ in a wider sense which includes the desire to achieve. By itself, this IQ myth that's worshipped by the culture, measured precisely by Scientologists, is nothing more than an ability to solve puzzles and a talent for performing well on tests. It's well known that people with fast intelligence get easily bored, and some I've know failed to complete these stupid tests out of sheer impatience.

CULTURAL DEBACLE. I've never heard it put that way however, THAT is the problem in a nutshell. Fatherless children. It's especially hard on the young black males who REALLY need a black dad to teach them to deal with adult male...and white...authority. White dads teach their sons to deal with adult male authority and the black dads have that one more step to do.
Clearly they were using racist numbers on these math tests....
Genetics is partially involved. This is why smarter parents have, on average, smarter children.
Environment is also a factor. Fetal alcohol exposure, malnutrition, micro-nutrient deficits and lack of care all stunt growth - regardless of your genetics. The disease load of malaria and worms could account for some of the decreased IQ in Africa, relative to the rest of the world. Or why the lower classes are always deemed dumber - poorer diet and higher disease burden made them so, not necessarily bad genetics.
“Guns, Germs and Steel” says natural selection / social selection is responsible for Ashkenazim Jews having an average intelligence one standard deviation above average. However, another text mentioned that Jews were more likely to have books in their homes and be literate relative to Russian neighbors of the same social status - a cultural trait.
In short, genetics determine your maximum potential. Environment can cut it short. The current black culture tearing down kids who try to excel in academics, a lack of two-parent families for support and involvement, a heavy dose of drugs and crime and stress create a toxic environment.
Whether the black “average” is lower than whites is debatable. What is fact is that their current culture creates an environment that lowers their collective IQ.

The American black family has been a failure since the 1960's. Before that they were, more or less, on a par with other families. White families were able to make it through those awful 60's years (more or less) but the more fragile black family had a TOUGH time.
One historical dead give-away is to consider if several hundred thousand Caucasians were held in slavery, it would not take 150 years for the rest of Caucasians to rescue them or at least try. Did any Africans even attempt to rescue their kin? No, they tried selling us and the muslims more.
I feel sorry for those held in slavery, whether it was as agricultural workers and servants or as pawns for liberals.
What we are experiencing now from the out of control African-American culture is plain and simple Karma Police for our ancestor’s selfish and cruel stupidity. If they over power and prevail, as they certainly wish, we will all end up no different from any African country.
