When my nephew was about age 3, he got a dachshund pup that was just a few weeks old.
They grew up together.
The dachshund aged and died at about 14. My nephew and the rest of the family were heartbroken. That dachshund was a member of the family.

We have a 9 years old long hair dachshund and he is a member of our family. Stubborn and smart. :-)
