We are at 8500 ft elevation at the top of Coal Creek Canyon between Golden and Boulder in Colorado. We are on the west side of the North Ridge of Mt Thorodin off Co Hwy 72.
Hwy 72 is severed by the stream about 3 miles east. I got stopped before driving off the wash out Thursday at about 5:15 a.m. by someone flashing lights that said I would drive off into the torrent if I did not turn around.
I turned around and drove west to Peak to Peak highway and south to Golden Gate Canyon Road, the next canyon to the south. There was much rock fall to watch out for.
I drove back from Co Spgs early and had more rock fall in Golden Gate Canyon Road, but made it home despite radio reporting the west hwy 72 back home was closed.
Lots more rain last night. Our postal carrier said Golden Gate Canyon Road closed for landslides and rock slides last night. She had to drive 220 miles for the postal route to get here today.
An underground water wash erupted in our side yard out of the ground. It just erupted and is like a stream on our side yard. Not a small stream, but a rushing torrent yesterday and today. Must be coming from water trapped by rock formations and directed here from higher on the mountain that is about 2,000 higher.
Isn’t this just crazy? The poor Boulder Sheriff put it so aptly in his first shell shocked media update: We could handle this if it was one drainage basin, but every single one of them is affected; no road in, we can’t go up the canyons against walls of water rushing back out against us.
Well, even with so much water it sounds like a good time to stay thirsty my friends.
I came back from Colorado Springs early on Thursday to beat a prediction of heavy rain that night. I made it back through Golden Gate Canyon, but the heavy rain just later caused rock slides that blocked the road in many places. Am going to try to make it out through Clear Creek Canyon later today.
Phish Photos Please...
That reminds me, I need to rehydrate this evening. Pulled up a whole lotta productive tomato plants today.
Wait! — is this the gardening thread?
Speaking of gardening will KyBu threepeat tomorrow?
I’ll be watching and hickory smoking a pork belly.
Not from this trip Too hot. Water temp 71.3 and needs to be 69 or cooler. 98 in the shade when we came in & it was 79 degrees when I went out to my truck at 3:30am. Extremely windy & current was outrageous as the dam was releasing beaucoup water to generate electricity for those hot Californians. Sad thing is they had 64K fish go over the dam Monday and 54k fish go over the dam Tuesday. Our 4 rods caught one fish in 7 hours on Wednesday...its all your fault.
I seriously hope and pray that the reports of 500 missing are grossly exaggerated and that it simply means that don’t have contact with that number of people.
I really like that area W of Denver. Even at 43,000 feet.
Authorities feel that the reports of “unaccounted” for have to do with power outages, etc., not actually people lost to the floods.

Your property is officially designated as wetland and you are now required to get a permit from the EPA to walk on it. You may not bring vehicles on wetlands. All boats are required to meet inspection specifications. On Monday, September 16, 2013 you will be require to contact the EPA in Washington, D.C. top verify that you will follow proper procedures or you will be evicted from the wetland.
So if you want, I’ll go get my cruiser from Powell and park it in the back yard if you’ll let me plug in the dockside power...
We can fish for dentures from the senior center and skeet shoot cars coming from the med center...
The med center clinic’s front door is less than 100 yards from my back door. Skeet shooting is only permitted for the visually impaired.
I don’t think MtnClimber will be permitted fishing rights on his wetland property because the taxes have not been paid in full for the upcoming decade. Lois Lerner said something about that in her last bit of rambling testimony before Congress.
The generators for dockside power have been confiscated by the Dept of Energy because they don’t meet the environment standards for 2014. I heard they were being shipped to some wild assed raghead group in Syria that are friends with Zero,
Thanks for that article! Looks like a good effort on their part to address the issues. Giving 100% in competition should be expected.
For some reason it especially bothered me how they told Vickers to pit, and he was like: who me, you want me to pit, now? These guys want to race and try to win. To put the kabash on that competitive spirit is very distasteful.
Overcast with a chance of rain, then rain in the afternoon. High of 70F. Winds from the South at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 100% with rainfall amounts near 0.3 in. possible.

Looks like I may be doing some yard work instead.
Weather channel says it’s raining in the Chicago area. It might be a long day (for race fans) if you don’t like football.
looks like I just may end up at Fox Sports watching the Lucas Oil races.
