Israel's shale reserves 2nd largest in world
The Times Of Israel ^ | Horovitz | David

Far below the surface of the Promised Land, a hidden treasure lies. If it can be carefully liberated from the geological layer in which it is caught, it promises nothing less than to transform Israel’s economy. It is called oil shale. And, along with Jordan, Israel just so happens to sit upon the world’s second largest deposits of the stuff, after the United States.

Oil shale deposits are overwhelmingly located outside conventional oil-rich areas such as the Middle East and North Africa. So if safe, economic processes for extracting this alternative oil resource can be put into effect, dependence on the energy-exporting Middle East could gradually decline, in a dramatic transformation of the global economy, with Israel as a prime beneficiary.

Advocates say oil shale is an Israeli resource whose time has come, and are adamant that it can be realized without negative environmental consequences. But critics cite fears of underground fires, contaminants seeping into air and water, even seismic rifts.

With a few exceptions, the battle over oil shale is being fought away from the headlines. It will come to a head in the Jerusalem Regional Planning Authority, a body headed by an Interior Ministry bureaucrat, which in the next few months will decide whether to authorize a pilot project to extract shale oil in the Elah Valley, south of Beit Shemesh.

I seem to read something about oil in a flinty rock.

Oil reserves are a gift from God, and this proves it. May Israel develop these reserves carefully for their own use.

Carefully to preserve any archeological treasuses in the Holy Land and quietly to avoid jealosy and invasion by their neighbors.

It should be noted that the process needed to produce shale oil is completely different from that for shale gas. Though the shale oil process also produces a large amount of gas.

The shale oil rock is way, way below any archeological artifacts.

My first thought, as well.

The Saudis must really hate Israel today.

Hopefully this can be shoved up the Arab world’s posterior (which includes Barry) as long as the leftist EnviroTards in Israel don’t shoot it down. They are going to try, one can be certain of that. Probably with funding and logistical assistance from the Democrats.

Great comment. Let’s pray we don’t hear the same regarding rockets raining down from the heavens on Israel.

Deuteronomy 33:24

English Standard Version (ESV)
24 And of Asher he said,

“Most blessed of sons be Asher;
let him be the favorite of his brothers,
and let him dip his foot in oil.

Poor article.

Critical item: Oil shale and shale oil is not the same thing. This is talking about oil shale and oil shale is not oil. It is kerogen. Kerogen doesn’t refine. It’s not oil.

Converting kerogen to oil is similar to converting coal or methane to oil. You have to expend enormous amounts of joules to get the desired result. The process can’t scale. There is never enough local water (or joules) to make it happen.

People always want to point at various processes for synthesizing oil and say there will always be enough. It’s not true. Synthesis has never shown any potential for doing 75 million barrels / day.

I find it hard to believe that their reserves can be that large, when their land mass is not.

You are telling me that they are larger than Canada, Russia, and the US?

Hard to fathom.

From the article: “Karassin is an environmental policy expert who heads the Sustainable Development Committee of the board of directors at Keren Kayemet LeYisrael (Jewish National Fund), and represents the Green Zionist Alliance on the board.”

Another communism infected Jew. Agenda 21 in Israel, being pushed by a communism infected Jewish female. Who said G*d does not have a well honed sense of irony?
