It’s strange that people who can see the folly in other socialism can’t see it in socialized schooling.

I have never been able to quite understand this myself. You would think that folks would rebel against the idea of turning their progeny over for indoctrination...... to the same outfits that run the Post Office and the state D.M.V. But they blindly do this..... knowing that Fed-Ex and U.P.S. do a much better, more efficient and less costly job than the government could ever hope for.

As far as D.M.V. goes.....about the only they do is license drivers and automobiles but private insurance companies could do a much better, more efficient and less costly job of doing this as well. The companies found to be lacking in their licensing efforts would soon go bankrupt for lack of customers. This is the way the efficient free market works. Government has no inherent stake in whether or not you're a good driver......but insurance companies sure would!

If education were ever taken away from the bureaucrats and established as non compulsory you would see a private school on just about every street corner all competing for your education dollars....just like gas stations do for your vehicle needs. They go out of business if they do a poor job also.....and so would free market schools.

For the folks who want stupid kids (or think they can't afford it) and won't provide for their education? They would be few and far between.....but nevertheless....plenty of charitable organizations would exist and plenty of endowments for just this purpose would also be available.

Actually....if education were left to the free market and any and all government control or regulation were discontinued.......you would probably find that the weekly cost would be less than your toilet paper budget.

But.....still there would be folks who would insist upon having stupid kids! No different from now.........but their neighbors would not have to subsidize their stupidity.

You’re right. Far too many people fail to realize that socialized schooling is the nation’s biggest entitlement program. Going back to a free market capitalist system would eliminate the entitlement and create schools for every segment of society and private charity would insure that everyone who wanted their children schooled would be able to.

It would also eliminate problems like celebrating Christmas and Easter in school. People who want that would have a choice of schools that provided that. Muhammadans would have schools that accommodated their beliefs, etc.

The cost of schooling would drop because competition would drive down costs. Good teachers would prosper because they would be in demand.

The challenge is getting people to willingly get off the government teat.
