What are windows for? AND You can probably spread around the light a bit more, but you can't get more light in through the hole than hits the hole to start with (First law) In fact you'll get LESS light than hits the hole (Second law) Making a hole i your roof isn't making a light bulb it's just making a hole in your roof. (

you can't get more light in through the hole than hits the hole to start withThe thing is you have extended the 'light-catching area' above the roof. So you have increased the amount of light coming through the roof at all times of day except noon.
