Fortunately, as was explained to me, it had got into my sleeve and bitten me right at the bend of the elbow where a lot of the venom was absorbed by the thick calloused skin and they debrided most of that away.
Even so, I had an extreme case of cellulitis from my elbow to my wrist - I looked like Popeye for about two weeks, and over the course of several days, had a considerable amount of pus drained from my arm. That was 23 years ago and I still have a little dimple in my elbow...
Re your post 54 and others concerned with brown recluse spiders.
Those guys truly are serious business, folks. My sister, who lives in Alabama, was bitten by one and her entire left leg was horribly swollen. Just as the doctors had determined that they would have to remove her leg near the hip to save her life, one came up with a way to stop the poison. He thereby saved her leg from amputation.
She is fine now but it was touch-and-go for a while there.
I got tagged by one at the beginning of Summer but I didn’t know what got me. I was pulling the mower out of the shed and felt something “pinch” the back of my leg. Showed the “sting” to a nurse at Church and she asked me if I had felt a wasp sting. I said no. She told me to get to the Doctor the next day. The doctor said it was a Recluse but I didn’t get a lot of venom. Had a three week course of several different meds. I don’t think I even have a scar.
