Its hard to tell that it was racism or not. I’ve seen “up class” places be very snotty with anyone who doesn’t “look the part”. I never once considered it racism.
I am sure they would say the same after looking at me. That isn’t racism; it is snottiness.
And it ain’t a crime.
Not yet.
(if it does become a crime, my guess is that it will only be a crime against certain segments of the population)
You're right: the shop probably would act the same way with most of us regardless of our color. But American Blacks are indoctrinated to see any little affront as racism and nothing else. That's why they may never be able to mainstream.
If racism did not exist, it would have to be invented, to conform with the frame of thinking that has overtaken a large part of the “liberal” voting bloc.
This was not racism. It was a judgment by the shop owner based on a perceived hostility on the part of the purported “customer”, come in seeking the confrontation.
Not racism necessarily.
I've had it happen to me (white) and it is mostly a snobbery factor - race does not matter, only looking rich. I've always just walked away and considered it a good thing I didn't give my money to the snobs.
You should see them when I show up! I dress to cover my butt, not to impress people.
